GeoDecisions’ IRRIS® Technology Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation

(May 27, 2009/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, recently commemorated the 10-year anniversary of its IRRIS technology. Since its inception in 1999, IRRIS has utilized the latest advances in information technology, geographic information systems, and location-based services to aid decision makers in coordinating response, managing assets, and tracking equipment or personnel through a common operating picture.

IRRIS was originally developed for the U.S. Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command to track, manage, and document the movement of surface cargo transported throughout the world. Today, the portal serves the U.S. Transportation Command, the Defense Transportation Tracking System, the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center, and the Defense Courier Directorate. The portal is also used by federal and state homeland security agencies, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to rapidly deploy resources and equipment worldwide and respond to emergency and crisis situations.

A secure geospatial Web application, IRRIS provides users with the access, knowledge, and visibility to effectively view, analyze, and track mobile assets on a global basis. It incorporates and displays worldwide infrastructure data, live-vehicle tracking, near-real-time weather, and active route conditions in a map format. A commercial version of IRRIS provides comprehensive asset management and logistics capabilities.

The IRRIS project has been the recipient of many national awards, including a Grand Conceptor award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania; a Geospatial Leadership Award from GeoWorld magazine and GeoTec Media; a Federal Government Innovator award from Accenture; an Innovator Award from Application Development Trends magazine; and an Intergovernmental Solutions Award from the American Council for Technology and the Industry Advisory Council.

“GeoDecisions offers enhanced Web-based mapping capabilities and innovative software integration with IRRIS,” said Brendan Wesdock, vice president of GeoDecisions. “The application continues to evolve and provide its users with leading-edge innovation, while offering superior situational awareness, command and control, and high-level transportation security and incident management.”

GeoDecisions’ experienced staff of professional consultants, analysts, and developers supports clients across the United States. Fundamental to the company’s award-winning approach is the integration of spatial information to empower existing systems and processes. GeoDecisions’ philosophy is based on an enterprisewide approach to the integration of diverse information technologies, data formats, and systems.

GeoDecisions is ISO 9001:2000 certified for its operations nationwide.
