USGIF Supports Geospatial Documentary with $50,000 Donation

HERNDON, Va. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 21, 2009 The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation announced today its official endorsement and leadership support for the development of Penn State Public Broadcasting’s Geospatial Revolution Project, an integrated public media and outreach initiative, about the world of digital mapping and how it’s affecting our world.

“The Geospatial Revolution Project tells an important story for the GEOINT Community,” said USGIF President Keith J. Masback. “I am very proud to announce that USGIF has pledged $50,000 to help support this program and further promote the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.”

As of today, PSU Public Broadcasting is in the fundraising phase for the project. To produce all of the planned episodes and culminating one-hour documentary, fundraising will continue throughout the project. Other organizations that have also committed funding include DigitalGlobe, a USGIF member, and the American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing (ASPRS). Production will continue as soon as the goal of $500,000 is reached. Funders are encouraged to come on board early in order to receive recognition in all episodes. Learn more about fundraising and underwriting opportunities by contacting Email Contact.

The project will feature a web-based release of eight video episodes. Overarching themes and historical context throughout each episode will tie them together, culminating in a nationally released 60-minute documentary. The project will also include an outreach initiative in collaboration with Penn State’s educational partners, a chaptered program DVD and on-line outreach materials.

USGIF will continue to give updates on important milestones and developments throughout the project’s development. With your support, PSU Public Broadcasting looks forward to an early production start and sharing this amazing project with all of you.
