Timesys Announces Factory Support for MIPS32® Processor Cores

Solution Enables Licensees to Easily Assemble and Maintain SDKs

Pittsburgh, PA, USA — May 08, 2009 — Timesys Corporation ( http://www.timesys.com), a premier provider of embedded Linux software solutions, today announced Timesys Factory support for MIPS32® synthesizable processor cores, including the high-performance MIPS32® 74K™ and multi-threaded, multi-core 1004K™ Coherent Processing System.

The Timesys Factory enables MIPS Technologies’ licensees and customers to quickly assemble and maintain a proven Linux platform for MIPS® 32-bit cores, including an optimized kernel, properly configured toolchain, and up to 600 middleware/package sources. All Factory-built Linux platforms will be delivered in concert with a properly configured development environment, task-oriented support and a unique update notification service that proactively alerts developers of kernel, middleware/package and tool updates that are specific to their Linux platform. Available kernels have been customized by MIPS Technologies to leverage the unique benefits of the 74K and 1004K core families.

“MIPS is committed to ongoing expansion of our already broad ecosystem of tools and support to help our customers get their differentiated designs to market rapidly,” said Udi Kalekin, vice president of software engineering at MIPS Technologies. “As Linux continues to proliferate in the digital home and beyond, our licensees and their customers are looking for ways to quickly and easily build custom Linux distributions for MIPS cores. The Timesys Factory is a welcome option for easing this often complex process.”

“We are very pleased to expand our relationship with MIPS Technologies by enabling support for its 32-bit cores in the Timesys Factory,” said Charlie Ashton, vice president of business development at Timesys. “The LinuxLink MIPS32 support enables MIPS Technologies’ world-class set of licensees to quickly build SDKs for their processors and reference platforms while allowing their OEM customers to accelerate their tie-to-market by using LinuxLink’s unique software development framework.”

For a limited time, developers can obtain a free 3-day limited trial of LinuxLink to quickly configure, build and evaluate embedded Linux on MIPS32 cores at https://linuxlink.timesys.com/register/factory. Developers should enter promotion code PR32R when completing the online registration form.

MIPS licensees may also register for an upcoming webinar series titled “Building a complete Linux SDK for a MIPS platform using LinuxLink 3.0” at https://linuxlink.timesys.com/3/Webinars/MIPS_SDK.
