Tennessee’s largest electric cooperative targets enterprise integration for smart outage restoration
April 29, 2009 -- Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced Middle Tennessee EMC (Electric Membership Corporation) has selected Telvent’s Responder Outage Management System to integrate with its ArcFM™ enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) and other information and communications systems for improved response to outages and electric service disruption events. ArcFM GIS and Responder are both key components of Telvent’s Smart Grid Solution and are designed to interface with electric utility enterprise operations and business technologies to help create a more efficient and reliable power delivery network.
Middle Tennessee EMC, Tennessee’s largest cooperatively owned electric power distributor and the sixth largest electric coop in the United States, serves more than 180,000 homes and businesses. OMS Project Manager Bruce Bradford reported the Telvent OMS will seamlessly integrate data from the utility’s established ArcFM™ enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS); device status information from its supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system; customer data from its Customer Information System (CIS); customer calls from its Interactive Voice Response (IVR); and response vehicle location from its Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL). Responder will provide a single user interface for these information and communications systems.
“Responder is going to be very beneficial on many levels and will make the whole process of helping our members during outages much more efficient,” Bradford affirmed to MTEMC employees during an orientation overview.
Frank Jennings, President of Middle Tennessee EMC, said, “OMS offers the opportunity for MTEMC to address our members’ concerns and questions in a timely manner and enables the professional response they deserve. This new technology should provide MTEMC the infrastructure for success and better member satisfaction.”
MTEMC, which also deploys Telvent’s Designer GIS-based graphic design application and ArcFM Viewer, plans to go live with Responder in June 2009 and anticipates adding Telvent’s DMS (distribution management system) to integrate with Responder OMS in the near future.
