1Spatial keynotes GI2009: AUTOMATED GENERALISATION ACROSS EUROPE

April 20, 2009 -- 1Spatial is very pleased to announce their collaboration with IGN e.V. - the Symposium organisers, and highlight their involvement in this international symposium taking place in Dresden (Saxony / Germany).

1Spatial has been working on generalisation for over a decade since the european ESPRIT EC-funded project that delivered AGENT (Automated GEneralisation – New Technology) software. With increasing demands for up-to-date and high quality data to be produced at many scales, the ability to include generalisation as a key tool in any regional or national mapping production suite is a big step forward. It can help with issues, such as multiple representation across scales and borders.

In Germany numerous state mapping agencies use 1Spatial’s Radius Clarity framework, which has delivered an automatic generalisation flowline to generate digital landscape models (DLM) at 1:50 000 map scale. This enables members of the AdV (Working committee of Federal States) to derive digital topographic maps (DTM) at their target scale. It has introduced time and cost savings and has enabled users to release more frequent updates of their products.

LUC VAN LINDEN, Technical Business Development Manager from 1Spatial, will present an overview of this project with the AdV. He will also present other 1Spatial activities in the generalisation arena across Europe and outline the 1Spatial Generalisation Framework. This fits with the GI2009-Symposium-DRESDEN approach to:

  • Encourage data sharing and interoperability to develop regional awareness, improve business processes and drive industry collaboration
  • Stimulate and sustain creative, lifelong learning and innovative regional development
  • Discuss and debate the usefulness of geospatial and environmental applications
  • Provide a forum for knowledge exchange relating to innovation in cross-border spatial data infrastructure programmes in Europe

DR. FRANK HOFFMANN, Chairman of IGN e.V. commented: “We have been running these events for almost 10 years and it provides a forum for many organisations who simply cannot afford to attend the GSDI and INSPIRE Conferences. However, these organisations, especially from Czech Republic, have extensive experience and requirements around cross-border data sharing and INSPIRE oriented Meta Information Systems like GeoMIS “MICKA”, as well as geospatial infrastructure developments. We are very pleased that 1Spatial accepted our invitation to present on a very important industry topic.”

The GI2009-Symposium takes place in Dresden from 14th to 15th May 2009. For further information on this event please visit the 1Spatial website or the event website: [ http://www.ign-sn.de/GI2009/GI2009-Vorinformation-25.02.2009.pdf ]] This annual symposium takes place within the European Community's framework of "The European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009" and "The European SME Week" from 6th to 14th May 2009, as announced by the European Commission.

Keynote speakers are coming from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland and participants are expected to attend from other countries across Central and East European (CEE) countries.

About 1Spatial
1Spatial delivers integration and quality control software and services to help organisations maximise value from geospatial information. With an open, standards-based, GIS-neutral approach 1Spatial enables the integration and transformation of geospatial data across and between operational planning and decision-making processes. In doing so, 1Spatial can help reduce costs and increase efficiencies, delivering added value into workflows of any scale or complexity. The modern era demands the unconstrained sharing and integration of ever-increasing amounts of geospatial data. 1Spatial is a leader in facilitating such sharing and integration through the creation of cooperative infrastructures and workflows. About AdV
AdV is a Working Committee that coordinates the official surveying in Germany that is conducted by the federal states. Committee members include representatives from the 16 federal state survey offices, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Ministry of Defence and the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs. AdV’s general function is to find uniform regulations for technical issues with fundamental and supra-regional importance to ensure that all members follow one, consistent approach. The committee’s duties cover spatial reference (geodetic), geo-topography and real estate cadastre, as well as information and communication technologies. [ www.adv-online.de ]

About IGN e.V.
IGN e.V. is the INNOVATION Grenzüberschreitendes Netzwerk (X-border Network). It is a non-profit Association (gemeinnütziger Verein) for Education, Development and Knowledge Transfer - has been founded first in 2002 as "GDI-Sachsen (i.G.) " - as the final outcome of the "OpenGIS Strategy Seminar" series in GI2000 & GI2002 at "Bildungswerk Ost-West" (BOW), but later on was re-founded as the follow-up "IGN e.V." at September 2nd, 2003, by Czechia & Saxonia experts of Cartomatics, Cyberlaw, Cybernetics, Geomatics, Economics, Mediamatics, Pedagogics, Regional Development and Spatial Sciences and officially registered by Dresden City Court as non-profit Association at October 16th, 2003. Its main goals: supporting GEO - ENVIRO - SPATIO - oriented Awareness, Business and Openness in Research, Education and Training on GeoINSPIRE’d Interoperability, Sustainability, and Usability of spatial Data, Services and Applications for X-border-Infrastructures of Spatial Information in EUROPE of REGIONS (X-INSPIRE).
