MaxVision® Launches Industry’s Fastest Rugged 3D Workstation

MADISON, Ala.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 30, 2009— MaxVision today introduced the MaxPac® 8242XRA, a new high-end rugged 3D computer for in-the-field advanced modeling and analysis including geospatial intelligence operations, advanced pre-mission simulations and post-mission reviews. MaxVision develops rugged portable servers and desktop solutions for some of the world’s most demanding problems and environments. MaxVision has mastered the art of injecting the most advanced processor, graphics and I/O technology into the marketplace in sophisticated packaging to provide high performance computing for harsh environments. Launching a new rugged MaxPac that operates within 0 - 50° Celsius, using the Intel® Xeon Processor Series 5580, on the same day that typical office environment computers first became available was possible due to MaxVision’s engineering talent and Intel’s Channel Partner Premier Program.

MaxVision’s newest MaxPac workstation generates 25% to 200% higher results on every benchmark tested to date including Dhrystone, Whetstone, Multimedia Int and FP, 3DMark and FurMark. As a Premier Partner, MaxVision is provided early information, preliminary test data and product samples as well as direct access to in-depth Intel technical resources and testing feedback. MaxVision relied heavily on this access to Intel’s latest micro-architecture, formerly codenamed Nehalem, and its own internal multi-decade engineering experience to utilize best-in-class Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components in the design of this new rugged MaxPac. All MaxVision products are built to withstand extreme temperatures, survive transportation shocks or drops and prevent intrusions of the finest desert sand or dust.

The MaxPac 8242XRA can be purchased with one, two or three integrated 22” 1680 x 1050 resolution LCD displays and the latest professional video controllers supporting up to 4GB of video memory. Up to 24GB of DDR3 memory and up to 8TB of removable hard disk are available options. Box-in-Box shock isolated chassis and desert-proven air filtration systems are all part of the standard features of the product. Prices start at $16,100.

“Our customers are always demanding higher CPU, graphics and I/O performance, due to their intensive analysis and rendering of huge data sets,” said Bruce Imsand, MaxVision’s founder and CEO. “Being able to so quickly provide our customers such a noticeably faster, rugged workstation has motivated every individual within MaxVision to perform at the best of their abilities.”

“MaxVision workstation customers typically use applications that will benefit significantly from the increase in Intel® Xeon Processor Series 5580 performance due to the Intel® QuickPath Interconnect, superior memory access from integrated memory controllers, triple-channel DDR3 system memory, and Intel TurboBoost Technology,” said Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Server Platforms Group.
