Society of Women Engineers Recognizes Harris Corporation's Wendy Martin as Outstanding Woman Engineer

MELBOURNE, Fla., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Organization Recognizes Eight Harris Engineers for Professional Achievements

MELBOURNE, Fla., March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wendy Martin, a Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) engineering director, has received the Outstanding Woman Engineer Award from the Space Coast chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) for her leadership, integrity and contributions to Harris and the community. Martin was one of eight Harris women engineers who were nominated and recognized in different categories during the annual SWE awards banquet held February 24th at the Rockledge Country Club.

"The Space Coast Section of the SWE is proud to have such a large group of talented women to recognize for their many outstanding accomplishments," said Lori McPherson, president, SWE-Space Coast Section. "Furthermore, we feel these women serve as excellent role models for the many new female engineers in our area, and also to high school students looking to engineering for their future careers."

Martin has been a Harris employee for 20 years and has worked on key programs such as the International Space Station, Tomahawk Cruise Missile, Comanche Helicopter and the U.S. Census Bureau Field Data Collection Automation program. In her current position, she oversees new business in the Civil Growth area of the company's Civil Programs business. Martin also is an active in the community, working with schools to encourage young people to consider engineering as a career.

Other Harris employees nominated for awards, based on achievements in their profession, included:

    --  Outstanding Woman Engineer -- Alene Heuser, senior engineering manager;
        and Kelle Wendling, director of the Wireless Solutions product line
    --  Technical Achievement Award -- Brenda Kaiser, systems engineer; and
        Martha Meyer, systems engineer/software manager
    --  Distinguished New Woman Engineer -- Jessica Beahn, systems engineer;
        Yashica Hunt, quality engineer; and Kungun Mathur, mechanical engineer

The Society of Women Engineers, founded in 1950, is a non-profit educational service organization dedicated to promoting the field of engineering to women within the community as well as in colleges and universities.
