Samsung Forms Foundry Partnership to Manufacture Advanced Programmable Logic Chips for Xilinx

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—February 2, 2009— Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leader in advanced semiconductor technologies, announced today that it has been selected by Xilinx as its foundry partner for 45nm FPGA manufacturing. Today’s announcement enables Xilinx to leverage Samsung’s advanced process technologies and manufacturing expertise to drive the next generation FPGA products.

“We are pleased to be working with the global leader in programmable logic technology,” said Dr. Ben Suh, vice president of ASIC/Foundry Business Development, System LSI division, Samsung Electronics. “Samsung is committed to delivering world class technology, manufacturing, and foundry services required to support Xilinx’s leadership FPGA products.”

Samsung’s 300mm logic process facility, S1 Line, located in Korea, engages with customers that design advanced semiconductors and require state-of-the-art manufacturing using leading edge process technologies.

“As a supplier of Common Platform™ and a recognized leader with a proven high-volume, low-power advanced process, we’re glad to have Samsung on board as a foundry partner,” said Vincent Tong, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Quality & New Product Introductions at Xilinx. “By working closely with Samsung, we are able to leverage their aggressive deep sub-micron process roadmap and continued investment in the most advanced manufacturing facilities.”

Xilinx, Inc. is the worldwide leader in complete programmable logic solutions, with more than 50 percent market share. The company’s award-winning products – silicon, software, IP, development boards and starter kits – enable designers to drastically reduce time-to-market in a variety of end markets, including aerospace, automotive, consumer, industrial and wired/wireless communications. Samsung production of Xilinx 45nm products is starting now and will support the growing demand for Xilinx’s FPGA solutions.

Samsung leverages its expertise in product design and manufacturing to provide foundry customers with full service solutions encompassing design kits and IP to full turnkey manufacturing.
