Coast Guard Uses PIER Systems for 2009 Presidential Inauguration Security Zones

PIER will be used for communications with the public regarding highly secured areas

January 27, 2009 - The United States Coast Guard has launched a PIER Systems information website to communicate with the public about temporary security zones which will be established in designated waters of the National Capital Region for the 2009 presidential inauguration.

The security zones will be in effect from January 14th, 2009 to January 25th, 2009.

The public information site, www.cgsecurityzone.com, includes a map of the security zones and a detailed outline of locations, dates and restrictions for commercial and recreational marine traffic. Photos have also been included on the site to visually portray the Coast Guard’s efforts during this memorable event in our nation’s history.

PIER’s interactive features and cutting-edge communication tools will enable USCG public affairs officers to provide information, distribute important updates and efficiently manage questions and comments from the media, boaters, landowners and stakeholders who will be effected by the closures.

Mass notification methods built into the PIER System such as email, fax, RSS feeds, SMS text messaging and telephone messaging, will be utilized by the the Coast Guard to distribute notifications and updates in the event of an emergency situation or security threat.

PIER Systems is used by all nine United States Coast Guard public affairs districts. They’ve relied on PIER’s innovative technology and robust communications tools for nearly eight years.

A consolidated presentation of real time information from the Coast Guard public affairs offices can be found at www.uscgnews.com.
