City of New Haven Uses 3n Emergency Notification System to Keep Residents Informed During Winter Storms

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jan 13, 2009 -- 3n Global ( www.3nonline.com), the leading global mass notification system provider, today announced that the City of New Haven, Connecticut relied on the 3n InstaCom™ Citizen Alert solution to disseminate important information about recent winter storms to its community of nearly 130,000 residents and 20,000 businesses. New Haven's Office of Emergency Management sent more than 100,000 weather-related alerts to its citizens during the event.

"Major winter storms or blizzards can trigger transportation disruptions, the need for parking bans and changes to City services which our residents need to be made aware of in a timely fashion," said Richard Fontana, Jr., MS, Deputy Director of Operations for the City of New Haven's Office of Emergency Management. "Providing time-sensitive, reliable and rapid information to the community is vital for ensuring the safety and security of the public during emergency situations. With 3n, we're confident of our ability to communicate with the people who live and work in New Haven and provide invaluable information to specific areas of the city."

Recognizing that natural disasters represent the most significant and anticipated hazards for the State of Connecticut, New Haven depends on 3n InstaCom Citizen Alert, 3n's map-based GIS notification service, to quickly target precise geographic areas affected by severe weather and communicate with thousands of residents, businesses, personnel, and first responders -- across multiple communication devices including mobile phones, landlines, BlackBerry® smartphones/wireless PDAs, email, and instant messaging -- in minutes. Since implementing 3n's ACT-SaaS (software-as-a-service with active-active data centers) emergency notification platform in November 2007, the City has sent more than one million emergency messages and emergency responder staff notifications.

"We applaud the City of New Haven for their comprehensive emergency preparedness strategy," said Cinta Putra, chief executive officer, 3n Global. "New Haven's proactive approach to informing residents about events that affect their area aids in rapid response and greatly reduces risks in a crisis situation."

The City of New Haven encourages residents and business to register for the City's emergency notification system at www.cityofnewhaven.com/EmergencyInfo/optinout.asp. Examples of notifications include weather-related alerts, evacuation instructions and instructions related to City services such as street sweeping or snow plowing. Individuals who register may choose to opt-out of the service at any time.
