Edgecam 2009 R1 Offers 5-Axis Toolpath Generation

From Planit comes the latest release - 2009 R1 - of its market-leading Edgecam computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
This latest release extends Edgecam’s 5-axis programming capability, and provides unparalleled ease-of-use.

Russell Franks, Planit’s Chief Technology Officer, says: “With the cost of 5-axis machine tools now being within the grasp of even the smallest manufacturing company, our objective is to support the many machine configurations available and make the programming of complex components much simpler. Edgecam 2009 R1 goes a long way to achieving these aims.”

Edgecam 2009 R1 extends its already extensive support for popular 5-axis machines, with the introduction of the nutated head/rotary table configuration.

Historically, the programming of 5-axis components has been among the most difficult tasks in CAM programming. “In the 5-axis environment, Edgecam 2009 R1 is very easy to use and, by default, creates a safe toolpath that will produce a finished part,” explains Russell Franks.

The flexible nature of 5-axis machining means there is always a number of different ways the machine tool can move to produce the same cut. Confidence in the toolpath is paramount in 5-axis, and in Edgecam this is achieved through reliable creation and visualisation. Enhanced capabilities within Edgecam 2009 R1 enable a full 5-axis machine model to be visualised, along with component geometry and toolpath.
