PCI Geomatics lends its support to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt

Richmond Hill, Ontario – December 15, 2008 – PCI Geomatics, a world leading developer of software and solutions for geospatial imaging applications, is pleased to announce its support for the New Library of Alexandria, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in Egypt . Committed to education and community development, PCI Geomatics has provided the library with 2 copies of its premiere software suite Geomatica®.

The new library is dedicated to recapturing the spirit of openness and scholarship while connecting Egypt ’s history to the world via cutting edge technology such as Geomatica. Its mission is to be a center of excellence for the production and dissemination of knowledge, and to be a place of dialogue and understanding between cultures and people.

Geomatica is ideal for educational and research purposes as it provides users with the tools for producing quality geospatial products. Such tools are perfect for an introduction to remote sensing or research involving image classification, processing, spatial analysis, cartographic map production and more.

“We have utilized PCI’s Geomatica software for years,” said Dr. Farouk El-Baz, Director of the Boston University Center for Remote Sensing. Dr. El-Baz, who served on the Board of Trustees of the BA during its first three years of operation, conveyed the software request to PCI Geomatics. “From firsthand experience, I know that our colleagues at the BA will put it to good use,” he said and added: “The generous software donation will be of great value to the education and research activities of the many scholars at the BA.”

“PCI Geomatics is delighted to contribute to the New Library of Alexandria and remains ardent in supporting technology and education initiatives around the world,” said Allan Place , Director of Global Sales at PCI Geomatics. “We look forward to new users having the opportunity to experience Geomatica.”

The BA is not only a library, but also a beehive of knowledge that includes an internet archive, six specialized libraries, three museums, a planetarium, an Exploratorium, four art galleries, a conference center and many other admirable offerings.
