GGP helps information flow at Malvern Hills

December 09, 2008 -- UK district council Malvern Hills is set to transform the delivery of public services following the introduction of a new system for managing council records. As part of an ambitious project to update core property records the new software from GGP Systems will be used to match Malvern Hills’ Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) against key Council databases. The specially developed GGP NGz software will also be used to join up essential back office systems. This will provide authority wide access to the data, ensuring an up-to-date and consistent base for decision-making and service delivery.

The LLPG at Malvern Hills was created from various sources of addresses within the Council, including Non Domestic Rates (NDR), Electoral Role, Planning, and supplemented with Ordnance Survey ADDRESS-POINT data. The original database was estimated to 75% complete and the Council has been continually adding new records and cleansing existing entries, to date, it is estimated, that the LLPG is 85% complete.

“GGP NGz offers an intuitive, map-based system, that will greatly help with the major address matching exercise we are about to undertake,” commented Beverley Burton, LLPG Officer at Malvern Hills District Council. “The openness of the system will also allow us to roll out the information, throughout the organisation, enabling us to take the LLPG to the next stage and utilise the resource to its full potential.”

“Historically different versions of the LLPG have been used by different departments,” continued Burton. “Using GGP NGz this is a situation we change. We will be setting up a live link between GGP NGz and our Intranet based geographical system, our Land Charges system and, as the address matching proceeds, systems that already use the data, such as Council Tax, Environmental Health and Planning plus new users such as Elections.”

GGP NGz is specifically designed to manage a Council’s LLPG; ensuring a consistent, up to date and accurate base for all property based information within the organisation. GGP NGz also manages the import and export of data between the local authority database and the NLPG, the national hub. The complete GGP NGz product suite was one of the first two software solutions to receive accreditation to the new national address standard BS7666.

“GGP NGz is both open and flexible and the staff at GGP Systems are always quick to respond and able to resolve support queries swiftly,” Burton concluded.

GGP Systems specialise in GIS and Gazetteer Management software specifically designed for the UK public sector. The South London based company provides easy to use solutions for the creation and management of corporate property databases, the ability to add and use a spatial element to all location based information and a range of solutions to meet t-Government directives.
