Nemetschek Allplan and the Nemetschek Foundation Promote Building in Regions with a Weak Structure

Munich, November 17, 2009 – Nemetschek Allplan and the Nemetschek Foundation are supporting the establishment of degrees for construction at the Anhalt University (FH) in Dessau, Germany, in structurally weak regions of the world. The software company and the special faculty for Architecture, Facility Management and Geoinformation have signed a corresponding agreement. As part of the project, a school and workshop building are planned in a township near Johannesburg.

The new building at the Ithuba Skills College will be designed, planned and independently constructed by students from Anhalt University (FH). It is intended for students from a township near Johannesburg and alongside basic subjects such as English, mathematics and natural sciences, will teach crafts such as bricklaying, carpentry or electrical installation. The design of the building has already been completed and the project is now in the concrete planning stage. From July to September 2009, the Anhalt University students will construct the building together with students from the Ithuba Skills College.

Anhalt University aims to fulfill several goals with the project: “On the one hand, we are able to support structurally weak regions, on the other, students in the faculty are able to gain theoretical and practical knowledge”, says Prof. Dr. Claus Dießenbacher from Anhalt University (FH). The project supports sustainable, local development. It also enables the students of both institutions to identify with the school and promotes exchange between locals and students. In addition to technical knowledge, the focus is on acquiring social and intercultural skills.

Nemetschek Allplan and the Nemetschek Foundation are sponsors of the project. Peter Mehlstäubler, Managing Director of Nemetschek Allplan GmbH, says, “We are pleased that we have the opportunity to support Anhalt University in its initiative for developing architecture concepts for structurally weak areas. It underlines our goal of promoting sustainable planning and construction, because this will become an increasingly important factor in urban development in the coming years.”
