Boulder, Colo. - October 28, 2008 - ITT Visual Information Solutions' Christopher Jengo has been named the recipient of the 2008 Geospatial Intelligence Award in the Industry Achievement category. The award is offered and presented annually by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). Mr. Jengo is being recognized for his exceptional work in the development of SPEAR (Spectral Processing Exploitation and Analysis Resource) tools. SPEAR is a suite of over 15 tools developed for use with ENVI software to automate and guide image analysts through image processing tasks common to defense and intelligence workflows.
SPEAR enables image analysts with limited advanced geospatial intelligence (AGI) backgrounds to create accurate intelligence products within tactical timelines with little or no additional training. Examples of common tasks that SPEAR automates include pan sharpening, detecting lines of communication, change detection and terrain categorization (TERCAT). SPEAR was developed as a 2006-2007 MERIT project at NGIC to create analyst-friendly workflows that address commonly occurring EEIs for warfighters.
The 2008 Geospatial Intelligence Award will be presented to Mr. Jengo by USGIF representatives at the 2008 GEOINT Symposium in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.
The USGIF Awards Program was implemented to recognize individuals from commercial and government agencies whose work significantly contributes to advancing the science of geospatial intelligence. Award recipients have made outstanding contributions to the field and winners were voted by their peers.
ITT Visual Information Solutions plans to introduce additions to the SPEAR suite coming in the ENVI 4.6 software release scheduled for January 2009.
