deCarta Launches deCarta Mobile(TM) Location Platform for Mobile Devices

Delivers easy integration of location-based features for mobile applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today launched deCarta Mobile(TM), a location platform supporting location-enabled application deployment on mobile devices. deCarta Mobile is a client/server architecture with an easy-to-use J2ME client application programming interface (API) that provides a framework for rapid development of mobile mapping applications. The framework provides mobile application developers with the ability to easily implement modular fluid maps, panning, zooming, routing, geocoding, reverse geocoding and pin overlays into their applications.

According to a recent forecast released by market analysis firm ABI Research, mobile LBS will generate annual global revenues of $13.3 billion by 2013, up from $515 million in 2007. This large growth is attributed to the proliferation of GPS-enabled handsets and demand for location capabilities across an ever-widening range of applications. In addition to traditional location based applications such as turn-by-turn navigation and friend- finders, mobile internet services are incorporating mapping, routing and proximity search capability into new location-enhanced services such as search, gaming and photography. deCarta Mobile is designed to make integration of sophisticated, scalable location capability straightforward for mobile application developers.

deCarta Mobile consists of a scalable client/server architecture. deCarta Mobile Server(TM) leverages the performance of the company's high-performance geospatial software platform, Drill Down Server(R) which has been proven in use as the most prolific, scalable location platform on the market. deCarta Mobile Server can be deployed at a customer's facility or accessed as a hosted service from deCarta. deCarta Mobile Client(TM) is a comprehensive API that supports the functionality needed for most location-enabled applications used for mobile search, routing and mobile tracking.

The API, initially available for J2ME environments with an iPhone implementation to follow shortly, is available with complete source code and sample application code to allow rapid development and customization by application developers. Customers can modify the application to reflect their own branding needs or use a map interface that has been optimized by deCarta for the mobile environment. In addition, deCarta Mobile is compatible with JSR 179-based GPS implementations as well as WiFi and cell tower-based location technologies.

"Location is moving from niche mobile applications to a broadly distributed capability that enhances everything from navigation to social networking to photography and search," said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "Consistent with our ongoing drive to provide the developer community with advanced tools and technology to create the most compelling LBS applications and to significantly decrease their development time, deCarta Mobile puts the industry's most successful geospatial software platform easily at their fingertips."

Beta versions of deCarta Mobile are available on deCarta's devZone or from http://mobile.decarta.com. deCarta will be demonstrating deCarta Mobile in booth 735 at CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2008 at Moscone West San Francisco, September 10-12.
