New Digital CAD Overlay Brings Easy Visualization to Nikon's iNexiv VMA Automeasure Software

MELVILLE, N.Y., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nikon Instruments, Inc. added a new feature to its iNexiv VMA Automeasure software, the new Digital CAD Overlay, which allows users to easily compare an actual part to its CAD design specification. Eliminating the need for custom overlays or the purchase of large screen comparators, the new Digital CAD Overlay automatically resizes as the operator changes the zoom magnification of the system.

"The Digital CAD Overlay capability is seamlessly integrated into the Automeasure software, bringing advanced functionality to an already sophisticated software package," said Michael Metzger, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Nikon Instruments in Melville, New York. "The user-friendly option improves efficiency, while accurately capturing and tracking pass fail data."

The Digital CAD Overlay allows operators to import a DXF file and create a Nominal Graphical Image. Tolerance bands can then be added. When an actual part is placed on the stage, the Digital Overlay can be seen on the image screen and, through the normal teaching process, will align over the part enabling users to see whether it is in specification.

The CAD Overlay can be used in stand alone manual inspection or incorporated into an automated teach file. When used in an automated teach file, pass fail information can be saved and reported. Images of the actual part with the Digital Overlay can also be captured as part of both the automated and manual processes.
