Urban Mapping Announces Re-Launch of Award-Winning Map

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Aug 12, 2008 -- Urban Mapping, the leading provider of location-rich content for interactive applications, announced the re-introduction of the Panamap™, an innovative consumer map that uses a proprietary printing technique to represent multiple layers of imagery, each viewable depending on how the map is held. The original Manhattan Panamap received worldwide critical acclaim during its initial introduction in 2003. A revised Manhattan edition and new Chicago Panamap are now available.

Because the Panamap represents multiple thematic maps, subway routes must be altered from their traditional stylized versions and conform to the actual street grid. Both titles feature subway lines, indicating actual exits, footprints of well-known landmarks, a street grid and neighborhoods layered on a street grid. The reverse side includes entertainment venues, museums, sights, shopping and restaurants.

"I'm thrilled to re-introduce this award-winning product," said Urban Mapping CEO Ian White. "Not only is it a labor of love, but as society forges ahead into a techo-embedded era, the tactile now is more important than ever -- people like to touch things. The Panamap offers a unique visual performance and is a compelling product for map lovers, collectors, designers and anybody else who likes to say 'wow.'"

The Manhattan Panamap retails for $19.95 and the Chicago Panamap for $18.95. Both maps are available through select retailers and at www.panamap.com. An interactive demo is also viewable at www.panamap.com. Urban Mapping's Panamap has been featured at the MoMA Design Store, Takashimaya and received a record six design awards including Communications Arts' Award of Excellence, iF Communication Design Award and Merit Award, Society for Environmental Graphic Design and ID Magazine's annual competition.

In conjunction with this announcement, Urban Mapping has secured patent protection on the underlying MapAction technology. The patent, "Method of producing maps and other objects configured for presentation of spatially-related layers of data," was initially filed in 2001. Additional Panamap patents are pending in the U.S. and abroad.
