CarbonTools PRO University License Supports Geospatial Education

BURLINGTON, MA, July 10, 2008 – The Carbon Project is pleased to announce the CarbonTools PRO University Site License. This License allows the CarbonTools PRO geospatial interoperability toolkit to be used in computer labs, classrooms and offices across campuses and research institutions, making it easy for instructors and students to learn new skills they can take into the geospatial technology marketplace.

As part of President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative, geospatial technology was listed among the top three high-technology, high-growth industries in the country and has become a $30 billion-a-year industry.

The University License for CarbonTools PRO provides a site license that can be used to equip any student or teacher in geospatial technology education or commercial research and development program, providing a powerful new tool to educate students and researchers on geospatial interoperability.

CarbonTools PRO is already in use around the world letting Microsoft .NET developers seamlessly access, visualize and share a vast array of location content and services - including Microsoft Virtual Earth, Yahoo! Maps, Google Earth KML/KMZ, OGC GML, WMS, WFS, WCS, Filter Encoding, OSGeo, ESRI Shapefiles, MapInfo, Autodesk and more.

The latest CarbonTools PRO release includes updated support to Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) specifications, primarily WFS 1.1.0 and GML, and improved support to Microsoft Virtual Earth and Yahoo! Maps. In addition, the latest release includes the full source code for some of the CarbonTools PRO libraries. The source code provides a reference point for developers and allows further enhancements and modifications by users.

CarbonTools PRO also includes all source code for the popular Gaia 3.1 geospatial viewer, making it possible for developers to create and deploy advanced .NET applications in minutes. The Gaia 3.1 geospatial viewer application is available as a free download at http://www.thecarbonproject.com/gaia.php.
