In 2004, ILV-Fernerkundung deployed the first commercial digital camera system in Europe through the purchase of the DMC. Due to the DMC’s precise geometric accuracy, ILV-Fernerkundung was granted more contracts for survey projects in sun-rich, southern countries across EMEA that demand greater accuracy of position, height and color to produce images of high quality. For the first time, orders from abroad account for more than 50 percent of ILV-Fernerkundung’s total flight project revenues for the year.
In addition to providing higher quality imagery, the DMC allows ILV-Fernerkundung to significantly speed its workflow. “Without the need for film development and scanning, aerial photographs of Thuringia in central Germany can now be taken in only ten days, which was not previously possible,” said Martin Wagner, founder and chief engineer at ILV-Fernerkundung. “The image quality and seamless production workflow of the DMC allow us to perform more projects more efficiently. The second DMC will play a significant role in the future expansion of our business.”
“The high resolution and productivity afforded by the DMC have enabled aerial survey companies to expand internationally, extending Intergraph’s market leadership globally and making the DMC one of the most successful large-format digital aerial cameras in the world,” said Gerhard Lauenroth, account manager for photogrammetry and remote sensing at Intergraph Germany.
In addition to the DMC, Intergraph’s comprehensive photogrammetry portfolio includes a full line of peripheral technologies and software to ensure superior performance and quality for the entire length of a project, from flight planning to image post-processing. Among Intergraph’s innovative photogrammetry solutions is the industry’s first and only Solid State Disk (SSD) storage technology, which reduces the size and weight of the camera system and aircraft needed to achieve high-quality imagery. This new storage technology will play a key role in the efforts of ILV-Fernerkundung to further the innovative multi-sensoral aspect of aerial services.
About ILV-Fernerkundung
ILV-Fernerkundung GmbH was founded in 2001 as an extension of the original ILV (Ingenieurbüro für Luftbildauswertung und Vermessung) company, engaged in aerial surveys since 1990. The new name reflects the addition of satellite-based remote sensing to ILV’s portfolio of advanced survey technologies. The principal aim and focus of the company’s work is the further development and practical application of new, innovative technologies for the acquisition and utilization of remote sensing data, gathered by aerial or satellite sensors. ILV’s staff is highly qualified and experienced – some having worked on the first German space flight projects nearly 30 years ago. In 2002/2003, ILV confirmed its leading position in the field of digital aerial surveying with practical trials of the first digital aerial mapping cameras. In 2003/2004, ILV purchased and deployed the first commercial digital camera system in Europe, the Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera (DMC®).
