RICHMOND, VA – June 10, 2008 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, today announced the kick-off of Phase II of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center (HRECC) Data Integration Project. This project will leverage state-of-the-art ESRI-based Replication techniques across multiple localities and the state GIS Coordinating body.
HRECC is a regional Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) responsible for the County of Rockingham, VA and the City of Harrisonburg, VA. Phase II of the data integration project will streamline the data transfer process between the County, City, the regional PSAP and Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN). “We anticipate that successful completion of Phase II will improve our ability to support emergency response and share GIS information with localities and the state. This will reduce our data maintenance costs and enhance services to County and City citizens and businesses,” said Stefanie McGuffin, GIS Coordinator for Rockingham County. This streamlined process will enable secure, accurate and timely data access at the PSAP, the localities and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Included in Phase II is the development of a framework for data sharing between the HRECC and VGIN that can be used as a model throughout the Commonwealth. “The HRECC phase II project demonstrates how technology can be used to facilitate the sharing of local transportation data to support local, regional and statewide needs. The project provides a template for both business and technology processes that can be utilized throughout the Commonwealth to integrate geospatial data at all levels of government.” Dan Widner, Coordinator, VGIN.
ESRI’s ArcGIS Server-based replication along with custom applications will be used to provide the near real time updates from the localities to the emergency communications center, as well as to create a secure portal for the County and City to share data. Additionally, data sets from both localities will use ESRI’s Geodata replication services to synchronize content to the state GIS repository (VGIN).
“The implementation of the ArcGIS Server database replication within Rockingham County, the City of Harrisonburg, VGIN and HRECC will provide a model for other localities to follow for implementing secure and efficient data sharing and processing" said Bob Rike, ESRI’s Account Manager for Virginia. “It is a perfect fit for this technology.”
