ETRI chooses CHIPit prototyping system for verification of H.264 decoder application

Daejeon/Anaheim, CA, June 9, 2008 - ProDesign, a leading supplier of high-speed ASIC/SoC prototyping systems, today announced that ETRI's Convergence SoC Design Team has successfully adopted ProDesign's CHIPit Platinum Edition into its verification environment for its latest H.264 decoder application. The chosen system is a scalable multi-FPGA platform with a flexible, software-controlled FPGA interconnection architecture, and an extensive software package for design implementation, verification and debug.

ETRI's H.264 decoder is developed for mobile multimedia applications where baseline profile is used. It supports resolution from QCIF up to HD and is able to decode CIF and VGA resolution @ 30 fps with 7 and 22 MHz, respectively. It also supports multi-channel decoding up to 4 channels of VGA streams with one core. Its application area includes DVB, T-DMB, S-DMB, ISDB-T, PMP, and IP-based DVR systems.

"CHIPit's unique built-in host-DUT communication system (UMRBus) was a key to our project's success," stated Dr. Hanjin Cho, Project Leader at ETRI. "The UMRBus allowed us to send an encoded video stream from the host workstation to the AHB bus of our H.264 decoder inside the CHIPit system. Furthermore it gave us great opportunities to verify our design on a functional level, not just on signal level," he continued.

"ETRI is a great example how companies and institutes developing state-of-the-art technologies can benefit from our CHIPit methodology," said Philipp Ampletzer, Sales Manager Asia-Pacific at ProDesign. "A seamless design implementation flow, and an extensive verification and debugging environment with an optimized interaction between hardware and software are key factors for successful and hassle-free ASIC prototyping."

ProDesign exhibits its latest products at booth #344 at the Design Automation Conference in Anaheim, CA from June 9 through June 12, 2008. An impressive demo of ETRI's H.264 decoder application will be shown during the exhibition at ProDesign's booth.

About ETRI
Established in 1976, ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) is a non-profit government-funded research organization that has been at the forefront of technological excellence for more than 30 years. The research institute has successfully developed information technologies such as TDX-Exchange, High Density Semiconductor Microchips, Mini-Super Computer (TiCOM), and Digital Mobile Telecommunication System (CDMA). As a recognized leader in the information and telecommunication research institute in Korea, ETRI will strive to be the best in the fields of information and telecommunications.

About ProDesign
The privately held company was founded in 1981 and has over 100 employees at various research, design and sales facilities in Germany, France and USA. ProDesign has more than twenty-six years of experience as a service provider and manufacturer in the electronics industry. The company's products and services include the CHIPit family of ASIC/SoC prototyping systems that are used for algorithm validation, design verification, and hardware/software co-development and co-verification which allows semiconductor companies to reduce the time-to-market for their chips dramatically.
