HOK, a global architectural firm with 26 regional offices on 4 continents, has been evaluating Capturx for Autodesk Design Review to mark up digital paper drawings for quality control and for commenting on digital paper shop drawings. "Adapx is changing the architectural design space with their new digital pen and paper solution and we're very impressed with their ground-breaking solution," said Patrick MacLeamy, HOK CEO.
With Capturx for Autodesk Design Review, design teams can easily mark up and collaborate with designs from AutoCAD® and Revit®-based products using Autodesk's DWF® technology. Teams can download DWF-based designs from an Autodesk® Buzzsaw® Standard or Professional application site, for example, and then print them on normal paper in large sizes. Field teams can then mark up, annotate, or redline the printed drawings with a digital pen, which records pen strokes and stores the markups. When the pen is docked to their PC with a USB connection, the handwritten markups are automatically integrated directly into the original designs, available for immediate sharing, updating or review in ADR, AutoCAD, Revit and other Autodesk applications.
"Working with Adapx, we're helping Autodesk Design Review customers keep it digital even with pen-and-paper based markups," said Jennifer Toton, senior product marketing manager, Platform and AutoCAD Solutions, Autodesk. "Capturx extends the benefits of DWF technology to pen and paper, making it possible for engineers and designers to get the right information from the field and share it with the right people at the right time to avoid costly project delays due to lack of clarity or insight."
Instantly Digitize Your Markups, Annotations, and Redlines
Capturx matches the way that teams review designs today in the field. Designs are printed, often in large formats, marked up with pens, and then sent to multiple stakeholders for review. Capturx enables teams to continue using the natural pen-and-paper markup process while still keeping all the data digital. With Capturx, markups no longer have to languish in the field, wait to be scanned and faxed, or remain stacked on desks before the master designs are updated.
Patented software from Adapx turns pen and paper into extensions of your design desktop. By simply "checking" an icon on a printed legend called an "action palette," for example, ink strokes on printed designs turn into formatted call outs or any of the predefined markup stamps available in Autodesk Design Review. Capturx can also integrate freehand sketches and handwriting into DWF files, with the option to convert handwriting into text for editing and use in other Autodesk applications. Team members can color-code their markups, enabling reviewers to clearly see different sets of markups all in the same file. Since Capturx works with native DWF technology, markups can be accepted, deleted, modified, or overlaid upon on the original DWG files.
"We are thrilled with the real-world results that we are seeing from our customers," said Ken Schneider, President and CEO of Adapx. "Capturx for Autodesk Design Review gives project teams a number of key advantages that lead to an immediate return on investment -- namely cost savings in relation to other field computing equipment, easy no-training deployment, enhanced collaboration capabilities, quick information-sharing abilities, and reduced time and errors associated with data entry."
