deCarta Announces Real-Time, Two-Way Connected Navigation Service

White-label content and application delivery platform to be demonstrated at CTIA Wireless 2008 conference slated for Q3 availability

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today announced its real-time, two-way (RTTW) connected navigation service for next- generation personal navigation devices and smartphones. The service will be made available to carriers, handset manufacturers, consumer brands, automotive OEMs and in-vehicle service providers in Q3 2008. deCarta will be demonstrating its connected navigation platform, reference architecture and select applications in its booth at the upcoming CTIA Wireless 2008 conference (April 1-3, Las Vegas, NV).

Connected navigation is a real-time two-way system for delivering location-based services over a network to personal navigation devices or mobile handsets. Real-time location-aware content is sent to and from the device on demand, enabling the user to readily access dynamic information including Internet local search, traffic, weather, optimized driving directions and routes, points of interest and other pertinent location-based services.

As sales of personal navigation devices continue to grow rapidly, ABI Research estimates that by 2012, more than 62% of all navigation devices will feature RTTW connectivity, with nearly 170 million units shipping worldwide as personal navigation, location-based services and Internet-based local search converge.

deCarta's connected navigation service will allow its customers to bring branded offerings to market that leverage deCarta's proven, highly scalable LBS technology. The open API-based architecture will allow a wide range of content and services. The initial service offering will include LBS embedded device software and server expertise from deCarta, wireless data service from Jasper Wireless, SiRFInstantFix(TM) GPS aiding technology from SiRF Technology, Inc., dynamic traffic from INRIX and live local weather data from WeatherBug(R). deCarta supports content from all leading map data suppliers and will extend that breadth of capability through its connected navigation service, giving users maximum choice and flexibility. Internet search is enabled through deCarta's proxy server.

"deCarta is dedicated to driving the delivery of next-generation connected navigation services to the industry and consumer," said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "Efficiently managing and searching dynamic location-based data, and delivering consumer-relevant content requires tremendous expertise in geospatial server and mobile technology. This plays to all of our core strengths and strong partnerships that have historically allowed deCarta to serve some of the world's most successful LBS providers."

The company's connected navigation technology and service brings a comprehensive ecosystem to consumer brands wishing to enter the market, and to established personal navigation device manufacturers looking to further expand their product offering.

deCarta's connected navigation platform and reference architecture demonstration at CTIA Wireless 2008 will present sample applications including traffic, corridor search, local search and destination download. Scheduled demonstrations can be made by calling 408-625-3508 or visiting deCarta's booth at CTIA (#3247, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center).
