OPEN MIND at Westec 2008

hyperMILL® in SolidWorks® on display at Westec 2008

OPEN MIND Technologies USA will present it's hyperMILL software, including hyperMILL in SolidWorks at Westec 2008. OPEN MIND was recently designated a SolidWorks Gold CAM partner. OPEN MIND will be located in Booth 2967.

As a SolidWorks Gold CAM Partner product, hyperMILL satisfies a strict set of requirements including "in-window" operation allowing concurrent operation of CAD and CAM functions, associative recognition of model changes, and various design and user interface requirements outlined by SolidWorks for consistent processing.

OPEN MIND also provides integrated solutions in Autodesk Inventor®, ProENGINEER Wildfire®, as well as our standalone version which is integrated in hyperCAD® (thinkDesign®).

OPEN MIND's integrated solutions provide numerous benefits to users. Customers can work in a familiar CAD environment, developed by companies that are highly focused on design solutions. Additionally, OPEN MIND channels all of its development efforts into machining strategies and postprocessor solutions. But most important is that the integrated solution eliminates quality problems caused by passing data through neutral file formats or translator modules. And the concurrent operation within the CAD system eliminates the chance of machining the wrong design revision.

Proven Multi-Axis Solutions
OPEN MIND provides a strong 2.5D and 3D set of cycle strategies, including efficient stock-based roughing, complete finishing (steep and shallow surfaces), and rest machining. Additionally, a comprehensive set of utilities exist to use Feature-based programming for holes, pockets, and much more; Macro-based programming by accessing stored and proven machining process; and a Tool database based on cutters, holders, and machining technology parameters.

hyperMILL is also well known for its broad range of multi-axis solutions. This technology is created by our development staff and can therefore be presented through the product and to the market in a coherent manner. Not only does OPEN MIND develop its advanced 5-axis cycles, we also develop NC postprocessors to ensure proper communication with machine tool controls, and to allow for additional information to be passed from the CAM system to the postprocessor.

OPEN MIND's multi-axis solutions have various modes of cutter contact and cutter orientation control. They also include both collision detection and collision avoidance, which reduces the burden on the programmer to identify the ideal cutter orientations. The user sets a target orientation and an acceptable range of deviation in case collisions are detected. And the system works from there.

Multi-axis solutions provide many benefits, namely reduced part set-ups, increased part quality, ability to use shorter and stiffer cutters, and the ability to produce complex components.

Applications showing 5-axis rest machining and other complex collision analysis will be on display in the OPEN MIND booth at Westec 2008.
