USGS Opens Competition for National Geospatial Technical Operations Center to Denver and Rolla

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) today announced plans to allow the mapping centers located in Denver, Colorado, and Rolla, Missouri, to compete for the consolidated site of the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC). The Department of Interior directed the action in an effort to comply with the expressed intent of both the House of Representatives and the Senate Committee on Appropriations in their respective versions of the FY 2007 Interior appropriations bill.

The announcement means the USGS will revise the OMB Circular A-76 process currently underway to provide for consideration of consolidation of NGTOC operations at either the Denver, Colorado, or Rolla, Missouri, locations. Employees in both Denver and Rolla will be provided with resources necessary to formulate their Most Efficient Organization (MEO) in order to allow these centers to effectively and fairly compete. While this process is underway, both Denver and Rolla will remain open until selection of a single site for the NGTOC has been finalized.

Consolidating USGS geospatial technical operations into one cutting-edge, efficient NGTOC will remain a top priority for USGS in order for the agency to continue to effectively fulfill its leadership role within a dynamic and changing geospatial community.
