The Design Automation Conference to Showcase an AI Hardware Alley, Broadening the 2023 Exhibition Lineup

The new exhibition zone invites AI hardware innovators to exhibit at DAC

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. – February 10, 2023 –The  Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier conference devoted to the design and design automation of electronic circuits and systems, will this year showcase a zone on the exhibition floor and speaking slots dedicated to the artificial intelligence (AI) hardware ecosystem.

AI application specific hardware is driving the largest wave of chip design activity in decades, and DAC’s role as the innovation epicenter of the global electronics industry makes it the perfect place to showcase the enormous application potential of accelerating AI workloads.

Ideas and research around AI have been a key part of the DAC program exhibits for several years.  Since 2018, submissions of AI/ML papers to the DAC program have increased by 86%. In 2022, 30% of DAC program sessions focused on AI hardware and software design and development challenges, along with papers highlighting the latest research findings.

The 60th DAC will be held at Moscone West Center in San Francisco, CA, from July 9-14, 2023. DAC will co-locate with SEMICON West 2023, which is being held at the Moscone Center, North and South Halls, July 11 - 14, 2023.

“Each year DAC brings together the entire electronic design ecosystem under one roof – researchers, system architects, data scientists, RTL and circuit designers, software developers, IP providers, semiconductor professionals – anyone who is in the electronics design world,” said Joerg Henkel 60th DAC General Chair. “DAC is the home for everything that goes into silicon design and implementation, and this now includes AI acceleration systems and IP.  It makes perfect sense to introduce an AI Hardware area and speaking slots at DAC 2023 for the innovative AI startups to shine.”

Interest in the AI Hardware Alley is driven in part by the rapid growth of AI hardware startups in recent years. The Global Edge AI Hardware Market size as reported by Research and Markets is expected to reach $21.4 billion by 2028, rising at a market growth of 17.4% CAGR during the forecast period.

In March 2022, CB Insights reported 2021 was a year of unprecedented AI private market activity.  It was a record year for AI with more than $66 billion in funding, up 108% from 2020. This created a surge in M&A activity, a 5x increase in so-called unicorn births and multiple AI companies with more than $1 billion exit valuations.

DAC welcomes companies that focus on the following areas to exhibit:

  • AI infrastructure in data centers for training and inference at scale
  • Edge computing applications for AI accelerators, TinyML systems and hardware
  • AI’s impact on memory, storage and networking
  • ML model-hardware co-design, robustness and re-programmability, model standardization and interoperability
  • AI chip design and commercialization: design, testing and manufacturing, and routes-to-market

The AI Hardware Alley will be located on the first floor of Moscone West Center and associated with the DAC Transformative Technologies Theater (T-Cube), which hosts hourly presentations over three days, attracting 150-300 attendees to each presentation. Each participating company in the AI Hardware Alley will also receive an opportunity to present in the T-Cube theater. T-Cube theatre presentations include AI Hardware Alley exhibitor presentations, AI technical community panels, AI/machine learning discussions along with other invited transformative technology Techtalks and panels.

DAC invites all companies that are part of this vital and expanding area of the electronic design industry to participate and exhibit in the  AI Hardware Alley.

About DAC
The Design Automation Conference (DAC) is recognized as the premier event for the design of electronic circuits and systems, and for electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solutions. A diverse worldwide community representing more than 1,000 organizations attends each year, represented by system designers and architects, logic and circuit designers, validation engineers, CAD managers, senior managers and executives to researchers and academicians from leading universities. Close to 60 technical sessions selected by a committee of electronic design experts offer information on recent developments and trends, management practices and new products, methodologies and technologies. A highlight of DAC is its exhibition and suite area with approximately 150 of the leading and emerging EDA, silicon, intellectual property (IP) and design services providers. The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is supported by ACM's Special Interest Group on Design Automation (ACM SIGDA) and IEEE’s Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA).
