SEMI Announces Election of Semiconductor Climate Consortium Governing Council

MILPITAS, Calif. February 6, 2023 SEMI, the industry association serving the global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, today announced the election of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) Governing Council and its Chair and Vice-Chair. Beginning their two-year terms immediately, Council members will guide the SCC in its mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the global semiconductor value chain, including setting priorities based on a member survey and forming working groups and their objectives. The Council will convene at least monthly to ensure the SCC is on track to fulfill its vision.

Members of the SCC Governing Council:

  • John Golightly, SCC Chair, Sr. Director Sustainability, Climate, Global EH&S, ASM
  • James Larsen, SCC Vice-Chair, Supply Chain Responsibility Environmental Program Manager, Intel
  • Image
Chris Librie, Senior Director – ESG, Applied Materials
  • Young Bae, Global Business Director, Advanced Cleans Technologies, DuPont
  • Bruce Gall, Strategic Partnerships Manager, Google
  • Claire HyunJung Seo, Corporate Sustainability Vice President, Samsung Electronics
  • Dallal Slimani, Vice President Semiconductor Segment, Schneider Electric

“The Semiconductor Climate Consortium Governing Council brings together sustainability leaders from across the global supply chain and their election marks another key milestone on the industry’s path to net zero,” said Ajit Manocha, SEMI president and CEO. “I commend the Council members for their commitment to this crucial effort to forge shared solutions on the most challenging climate issues.”

SCC members are committed to working toward the following pillars and objectives:

  • Collaboration – Align on common approaches, technology innovations and communications channels to continuously reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Transparency – Publicly report progress and Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions annually.
  • Ambition – Set near- and long-term decarbonization targets with the aim of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

Members have affirmed their support of the Paris Agreement and related accords driving the 1.5⁰C pathway and are aligned on the need to drive climate progress within the semiconductor value chain. The SCC was conceptualized by companies meeting under the SEMI Sustainability Initiative, which continues to focus on non-climate related Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) issues.

SCC members span the full semiconductor value chain. Since the November 2022 announcement of founding members, the following companies have joined the SCC to bring total membership to 73:

Advanced Micro Fabrication Equipment Inc.
NuMat Technologies LLC
Besi Switzerland AG
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation
CEA-Leti
Teradyne Inc.
Merck KGaA
Toshiba
