Veteran CAD Journalist Randall S. Newton Acquires AECnews.com from Cyon Research

Bethesda, MD, August 3, 2005: Randall S. Newton and Cyon Research Corporation jointly announced today that Newton, a veteran journalist with 20 years of experience in the CAD industry, has acquired AECnews.com, the former A-E-C Automation Newsletter, from Cyon Research. The change of ownership took place August 1, 2005.

Newton has been Editor-in-Chief of AECnews.com since 2002. The publication was founded as A-E-C Automation Newsletter by the late Ed Forrest in 1977, and was published by David Weisberg between 1992 and 2000. In 2004 Newton led the transition of the newsletter, from a print-based subscription newsletter to an advertising-supported news website. It remains the oldest continually published news source devoted to AEC technology.

AECnews.com serves decision makers in Architecture, Engineering and Construction as well as the technology companies supporting AEC, the world's largest industry. The site provides reporting and analysis regarding technology adoption and use, as well as coverage and analysis of the technology companies serving the industry. Specific technologies covered include building information modeling (BIM), computer-aided design (CAD), business intelligence, plant design software, project management, AEC-specific business application software, related applications of global positioning satellite (GPS) technology, digital signature software, spatial information modeling, computer workstations, output devices, networking technologies, and technology for data use on the job site. The newsletter covers technology for facilities management (FM) and the use of geographic information systems (GIS) as it relates to the practice of design and construction.

AECnews.com also covers a variety of issues created by the use of technology in AEC firms, including technology adoption, the cultural aspects of technology use, industry best practices, collaboration, interoperability, and technical standards.
