WASHINGTON – August 9, 2022 - The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) is recognizing The American Institute of Architects (AIA) with its 2022 Power of Associations Awards for the development and implementation of the Architecture & Design Materials Pledge, the Disaster Assistance Program, and the Blueprint for Better (B4B) campaign.

The Architecture & Design Materials Pledge is being honored with a Summit Award, ASAE’s top honor recognizing the unique and indispensable role associations play around the world in bettering communities, fostering volunteer efforts, and harnessing the collective will and expertise of their members to ensure a better quality of life. Learn more about the levels, categories, and past winners on ASAE’s website.

The Architecture & Design Materials Pledge is being honored in the Industry/Professional Advancement category for leveraging the unique resources of AIA members to solve problems and advance industry and professional performance.

“AIA created the Materials Pledge to encourage our members to change the way they evaluate products and the finishes they specify,” said AIA EVP/Chief Executive Officer Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE. “By considering all aspects of building products, the Materials Pledge will help architects create designs that improve the health of people, ecosystems, and climate, contribute to social equity, and support a circular economy.”

Also being honored by the ASAE with a Power of Associations Gold Award, is the AIA’s Disaster Assistance Program. Since 1972, the Disaster Assistance Program has equipped architects with the knowledge and skills to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. As a result, architects’ disaster response processes, protocol, and training are aligned with federal frameworks.

AIA’s Blueprint for Better (B4B) campaign is being recognized by the ASAE with a Power of Associations Silver Award. Launched in 2020, B4B brings to life the role of architects as leaders in the fight against climate change. As a call to action campaign, B4B is helping architects, design professionals, civic leaders, and the public join AIA’s efforts to transform the day-to-day practice of architecture to achieve a zero-carbon, equitable, resilient, and healthy built environment.

“ASAE’s recognition of AIA’s initiatives underscores how important and impactful architects are to communities across the country. Through the Materials Pledge, Disaster Assistance Program, and Blueprint for Better, the AIA and its members are making real and lasting change around the world,” added Woods.

The ASAE Summit Awards dinner takes place on September 29 at the National Building Museum with hundreds of industry’s leaders attending.
