Esri User Conference Features Locana Expertise

Speakers Highlight the Significant Impact of GIS Through Client Use Cases

DENVER (July 11, 2022) – Multiple experts from Locana, an international leader in spatial technology, will present at Esri User Conference in San Diego from July 11 through July 15. Topics will cover: how to enable better decisions and drive spatial into business processes; reimagining outdoor advertising permitting; dynamic reporting that incorporates associated data via Python; leveraging enterprise GIS for flood defense asset management; and using infrastructure datasets for planning, recovery and resiliency.

“Across the globe, organizations are taking advantage of modern mapping and location intelligence to solve problems, build better businesses and create a better world,” said Jeff Haight, Locana CEO. “At the Esri User Conference this week, the theme is GIS – Mapping Common Ground. It will focus on how mapping, GIS, and the geographic approach can help create better understanding and agreed-upon solutions. At the show, our leaders will share use cases of how GIS enables collaboration around data-driven decisions, boosts efficiencies, streamlines workflows, drives reliable operations and creates positive outcomes.”

Locana Presentations

  • July 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Ballroom 20 BCD – Lightning Talk on Dynamic Reporting that Incorporates Associated Data via Python

Melanie Summers, Locana Senior GIS Consultant, will present a Lightning Talk, which is a five-minute “glimpse into someone else’s project, experience, or idea that is designed to inform, motivate, and inspire others,” on the topic of, “Dynamic Reporting that Incorporates Associated Data via Python.”

  • July 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. in SDCC – Room 25 C – Enterprise Success Stories
Dan Moore, Locana Principal Consultant, Data Integration, will present in the Enterprise Success Stories session along with Nell Conti, Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Over the past five years, CDOT has deployed and operationalized ArcGIS Enterprise in the AWS Cloud. The 3-tiered ArcGIS Enterprise Portal environment hosts a growing number of applications that are heavily used in several business areas across the organization. As CDOT embraced the technology, it recognized the need to manage its portal environment with well-defined governance procedures and deployment methods. This presentation will highlight the automation tools built, which both move and reconfigure apps and their dependencies, to any target environment.

  • July 12 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. in SDCC – Room 14 A – Run Better Together: The Science of Where Meets the Intelligent Sustainable Enterprise
Mike Underwood, Locana SAP + Esri Integration Lead, and SAP invite attendees to enjoy lunch while hearing from customers how utilizing Esri, Locana, and SAP technologies enable better decisions and drive spatial into business processes.

  • July 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. in SDCC – Room 25 C – Beyond Pavement: GIS Across the Organization, Part 1

Bruce Buxton, Locana Transportation, State, Local Sales Director, will share how GIS is now supporting an ever-growing number of business areas within DOTs. For example, the Outdoor Advertising Control program controls the erection and maintenance of advertising signs adjacent to National Highway System highways as required under the 1965 Highway Beautification Act. North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reimagined this workflow by leveraging Esri applications such as Survey123 and integrating with SAP to streamline inspection and validation processes. Using a system of engagement (SOE) geodatabase on the SAP HANA platform, data integration was improved between the Esri and SAP systems.

  • July 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. in SDCC – Room 25 C - GIS Trends for Environmental Consulting

In this presentation, Dan Culli, GIS Manager for Locana UK, will share how the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 (TEAM2100) program, which is the UK Environment Agency's largest flood-risk management program that manages 4,000+ assets ranging from embankments to the Thames Barrier, over an area spanning 350+ km from greater London to the North Sea, has a geospatial strategy focused on integration, innovation and an enterprise approach. The ArcGIS-based GIS platform provides a program-wide, single source of geospatial data and functionality that has become the foundation for the asset management approach. Culli will show how a variety of ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, Survey123 and field maps applications are utilized to collect and consume data, creating efficiencies across the program and driving intelligence-led asset management. Culli will also demonstrate how the team is utilizing StoryMaps to geo-enable asset management plans, previously static PDF documents, leading to increased client engagement and satisfaction.

  • July 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. in SDCC – Room 28 D - Big Data: Management and Dissemination at Scale

In this session, Katharine Hewlings, Locana/Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with Julie Sokol and Jason Shapiro of DHS, will share how there is a wide range of open infrastructure data on the web, including the HIFLD datasets. The Open HIFLD datasets are essential information that can assist organizations with the planning, recovery, and resiliency of America’s communities. The collection covers all 50 states, District of Columbia, and territories and is foundation-level. Some common mission needs include but are not limited to hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, flooding, and public health. This presentation will cover the DHS HIFLD’s program summary, how to access HIFLD open infrastructure data, visualize or download the data and analyze the data. The presentation will show the use of HIFLD data for hurricanes and wildfires as use cases. It will help show what infrastructure data might be useful, how to find it, and how data can be analyzed for that situation. The use cases demonstrate the use of HIFLD data in the planning and support and recovery during emergency events.
