URISA's Location, Enterprise Addressing & Public Safety Virtual Conference Set for February

URISA has a long history of delivering resources and educational content focused on addressing and emergency response.  Leading national addressing experts and members of  URISA's GIS & NG9-1-1 Task Force regularly provide resources to meet the professional education needs of the community from  Geospatial Fact Sheets, workshops, and webinars to the development of the  United States Thoroughfare, Landmark, and Postal Address Data Standard. Now, we're pleased to announce a new URISA Conference to collaborate on Location, Enterprise Addressing, and Public Safety (LEAP) taking place virtually in February.

Three keynote addresses will be featured:

Tuesday, February 1: The Map as a Lifeline
In this presentation, hear from the telecommunicator community about how they handled finding someone without an address. What tools were they able to employ to assist their efforts? What geospatial information do telecommunicators wish they had to be better equipped to handle such calls? How can GIS professionals and 9-1-1 professionals help each other to locate calls for service faster and more accurately?

Wednesday, February 2: State Perspectives on Next Generation 9-1-1 GIS Panel Discussion
Geography tells us that all places are similar in some ways and all places are different in other ways.  This holds true with US States as they, and their regions and localities, chart paths to Next Generation 9-1-1 systems leveraging GIS data.  This session gathers GIS leaders from Washington, North Dakota, Indiana, Georgia, and Virginia to discuss plans, strategies, and lessons learned for Next Generation 9-1-1 GIS.

Thursday, February 3:  U.S. Federal Addressing Initiatives: FGDC, Census, DOT, USPS
Geospatial Data Act reporting requirements are changing the way federal agencies organize and share geospatial data. Census, Transportation, and USPS are the key agencies leading US federal initiatives on road centerlines, MAF/TIGER data, postal addressing, and the standards data requirements that govern them.  This session will provide an overview and update on key federal address initiatives and standards.

Nearly 40 speakers are on the program and sessions will cover these important topics:

  • Indoor Location Mapping
  • Z-value Overview from the 10,000 Foot Level
  • Location Intelligence for Public Safety: Why it Matters and How to Leverage Innovation
  • What3Words, Placekey, Google Plus Codes - How Are They Used in Emergency Response?
  • Getting Organized: Models and Standards
  • Getting Started: Fundamentals
  • Enterprise Systems: Maturity
  • Building Systems to Serve Organizational Needs
  • Panel Discussion: Road Centerlines Best Practices
  • NENA Standards Updates
  • Service Boundaries and Interagency Coordination are the Fuel your Addressing GIS Data Needs
  • Next Generation 9-1-1 Implementations in Canada: Technology, Timelines and Planning Initiatives

In lieu of an exhibit hall, we are pleased to offer sponsorship packages to provide opportunities for software companies and consultants to demonstrate their support for this conference.  Sponsor Showcase Sessions, lightning talks, and comprehensive training courses will be provided by LEAP conference sponsors.

Daily networking and discussion sessions are also on the agenda.

Registration is now open for this 3-day educational conference. The cost for URISA members to attend is only $75; the nonmember registration fee is $150.  Get a group of staff members - as many as you like - to view the proceedings together (perhaps in a conference room with snacks!) for the affordable member price of $175, nonmember price of $250.
