GEO Business reveals full Main Stage line up

With GEO Business less than two weeks away (24-25 November, ExCeL London), the organisers of the UK’s largest geospatial event have revealed the full line up for the Main Stage, a brand-new addition to the show this year.

The programme kicks off on day one with a session on earth observation and aerial surveys from Allan Jamieson, Data Standards Lead at Ordnance Survey, followed by a talk about the next phase of the government’s National Underground Asset Register project, by Neil Brammal, NUAR Product Owner at the Geospatial Commission. Following that at 10.30am, the Geospatial Commission will give an update on the launch of their Annual Plan and strategy for the coming year.

The Main Stage will be chaired by Dr Vanessa Lawrence CB, Director of Location International, who will also give a talk at 11.30am on the first day of the show about the role of geospatial in addressing global challenges.

Among the other high-profile names making up the programme are Warren Vick, Director of Europa Technologies; Charles Davis, CEO of Earth-i; Stuart Martin, CEO of Satellite Applications Catapult; Lieutenant Colonel Alex Harris RE, Commanding Officer of 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic); Anita Soni, Deputy Head of BIM at Skanska UK Plc; David Philp, Impact Director for the Construction Innovation Hub; John Fraser, President (UK & Benelux) at Leica Geosystems, and more.

Visitors will also have the chance to see a live demonstration of the new Leica BLK ARC autonomous laser scanning module for robots, combined with Spot from Boston Dynamics in Two worlds, one reality: Why autonomous reality capture technologies are key to developing and protecting our physical world with Paul Burrows, Scanning Solutions Manager at Leica Geosystems.

The programme also includes a number of exciting panel discussions, with industry experts discussing some of the most pressing issues for the geospatial community.

On the afternoon of day one, visitors can attend The future of the profession, creating a profession we would all like to be part of with Denise McKenzie, Chair of AGI and co-author of the Locus Charter; Nigel Clifford, President of the Royal Geographic Society; Elaine Ball, Co-Founder of Get Kids Into Survey; Carly Morris, Head of Geovation; Simon Navin, Geospatial Services Lead at Jacobs; and Briony Turner, Climate Services Development Manager at Space4Climate.

They’ll discuss the growing importance of location data in relation to the bigger socio-economic responsibilities such as climate change and zero carbon, as well as its growing influence in other industries and sectors such as finance, insurance, the space industry. They’ll also cover what this means as we try to create a more accessible profession, how to attract and retain talent and what the career path of a geospatial professional will look like in the future and the opportunities available to the profession.

On day two, Olivia Powell, International Lead at the Geospatial Commission; Khalid Sheikh Fakhar, Chief Scientist at Sensat; Simon Navin, Geospatial Service Lead at Jacobs; and Yung Loo, Senior Engineer at Arup, will come together to discuss The drive for automation in the geospatial profession. They’ll explore how geospatial is moving towards automation, how the geospatial profession can achieve better outcomes and insights through automation, the power of AI, capture once and mass data collection, adding intelligence and what this means for the profession.
