Compliance testing is now available for implementations of the ‘OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core’ standard

Products that implement the Standard and pass the tests can now be certified as OGC Compliant.

15 April 2020: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that the Executable Test Suite (ETS) for the OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core standard has been approved by the OGC Membership. This is the first executable test suite for one of the new OGC API standards. Products that implement the OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core standard and pass the tests in the ETS can now be certified as OGC Compliant.

Implementers can validate their application using the new OGC API - Features compliance test, which is available on the OGC validator tool. These tests typically take only 5-10 minutes to complete. Once a product has passed the test, implementers can submit an application to OGC for use of the OGC Compliant trademark on their product. More information about the process is available at ogc.org/compliance.

The new OGC API suite of standards define modular API building blocks to spatially enable Web APIs in a consistent way. The OpenAPI specification is used to define the API building blocks. The OGC API - Features multi-part standard specifies the fundamental API building blocks for interacting with ‘features’ - i.e., digital representations of objects of interest in the real world.

A key advantage for using the OGC API - Features standard is the direct, fine-grained access to data at the feature (object) level, providing greater flexibility for linking to resources on the Web. This approach is consistent with the OGC/W3C Spatial Data on the Web Best Practices.

The OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core standard was developed in coordination with ISO / TC 211 (Geographic Information / Geomatics). The standard was approved and published by OGC in 2019, and is currently under consideration by ISO for approval and publication.

Part 2 of the OGC API - Features standard defines the use of Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS), and is currently open for Public Comment.

Implementers of the ‘OGC API - Features - Part 1: Core’ standard are invited to validate their application using the new OGC API - Features compliance test, available on the OGC validator tool

About OGC
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international consortium of more than 500 businesses, government agencies, research organizations, and universities driven to make geospatial (location) information and services FAIR - Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
OGC’s member-driven consensus process creates royalty free, publicly available geospatial standards. Existing at the cutting edge, OGC actively analyzes and anticipates emerging tech trends, and runs an agile, collaborative Research and Development (R&D) lab that builds and tests innovative prototype solutions to members' use cases.
OGC members together form a global forum of experts and communities that use location to connect people with technology and improve decision-making at all levels. OGC is committed to creating a sustainable future for us, our children, and future generations.
