The Dalí Museum extends public closure, expands digital offerings

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In continued support of the health of the community, The Dalí Museum is temporarily extending their physical closure to the public and will remain closed until further notice. The Museum initially announced closure through Tuesday, March 31, as a preventative measure to protect visitors and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

All programs and events scheduled at The Dalí between now and reopening, including external events scheduled at the Museum, will be canceled or postponed. Any updates to the temporary closure timeline will be shared with the public as soon as possible. Ongoing event scheduling updates will be made available at TheDali.org.

The Museum’s current special exhibit, Midnight in Paris: Surrealism at the Crossroads, 1929, will end on April 9 as previously scheduled. The exhibit will no longer be on view when the Museum reopens to the public. However, the Museum has created an online version of the exhibit reminiscent of what visitors would have seen on site.

The Museum has transitioned a curated set of materials onto TheDali.org to engage, entertain and enlighten during this challenging time. Highlights include the Museum’s award-winning virtual reality experience, Dreams of Dalí, The Dali’s 360 tour, numerous self-guided tours on The Dalí Museum App, plus several online-only exhibits.

New this week is a compilation of educational resources for teachers, parents and educators including lesson plans and activities related to Salvador Dalí and Surrealism, plus creative problem-solving exercises for businesses from Innovation Labs at The Dalí.

Each of these unique ways to experience the Museum digitally is now located in one comprehensive location at TheDali.org/virtual.

The Dalí continues to monitor this evolving public health situation and will follow the preventative measures from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health. Updates will be posted at TheDali.org and on The Dalí’s social media channels.
