Leica Geosystems, Liebherr cooperate to integrate machine control solutions

Relationship begins with excavators

(HEERBRUGG, SWITZERLAND, 12 March 2020) –  Leica Geosystems, a Hexagon company, announced today it’s cooperating with Liebherr, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction machinery, to integrate 2D and 3D machine control solutions for excavators.

The relationship begins with supporting the Liebherr Wheeled and Crawler Excavators Generations 6 and 8 with the Leica  iXE2D and  iXE3D machine control solutions for excavator guidance. Mono boom and two-piece booms versions are supported in this integration as well as hydraulic tilt buckets and tiltrotators.

“As construction in general is moving faster and faster when it comes to data and position-driven solutions for productivity and quality, machine control solutions for the construction industry are becoming more and more important,” said Leica Geosystems Machine Control President Magnus Thibblin. “Liebherr relies on our extensive knowledge of these solutions to offer customers value-added service and support straight from the factory, and we’re glad to enter into this strong working relationship.”

Complete control for excavators

With the Leica iCON excavator solution, high precision laser and GPS monitors the excavation position with a 3D model. The iCON iXE2 is designed to make excavating easier and more productive, allowing multiple elevations and slopes to be constructed, at any orientation without resetting the machine or laser height reference. The Leica iCON iXE3 is also used for point collection and stake out activities on projects, such as large road and infrastructure construction, subdivision building, industrial sites and dereliction works. The built-in GSM modem quickly supports and transfers files while the 3D system enables detailed monitoring of any site project.

“To be able to realise projects in the construction industry successfully, earthmoving operations must be carried out precisely, quickly and effectively,” said Joachim Strobel (Managing Director Sales, Liebherr-EMtec GmbH) . “Working with Leica Geosystems state-of-the-art machine control solutions, we can offer our customers this ability. These machine control solutions form the basis for future automation and an outlook on what possibilities may be available in the future.”
