TDK Semiconductor Announces New Fax/Modem Analog Front End

IRVINE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 30, 2005— TDK Semiconductor Corp., a leader in the design and manufacture of mixed-signal communication semiconductors for world markets, unveiled today the latest member of its modem Analog Front End (AFE) family of devices. The new 73M1903C is optimized for emerging MFP/Fax architectures and features worldwide PSTN compliance with programmable line terminations.

"The 73M1903C integrates many features previously supported with external components and is the lowest cost solution for both low- and high-speed applications, including V.17/V.34 Fax, MFP, POS, and set-top boxes," according to Kourosh Boutorabi, product line manager for embedded modems at TDK. "A unique feature of this device is integrated support for software selectable PSTN terminations. This offers designers the ability to meet world requirements with one standard low-cost transformer DAA circuit."

Building on TDK's highly successful 73M1903 and 73M2901CE series of analog modems, the 73M1903C includes on-chip PLL, up to 16KHz sample rate, and master/slave or daisy chain processor interfaces.

TDK Semiconductor is the largest supplier of embedded modem AFEs for the North American market and has shipped more than 80 million modem devices worldwide for set-top boxes, point-of-sale terminals, payphones, industrial applications, and security monitoring systems.

Availability

The new 73M1903C device is now available for sampling in a 32-pin QFN package. Pricing starts at $1.96 in 10,000 unit quantities.
