USGIF to Host Series of Unique Geospatial Intelligence Events in St. Louis

October’s Tech Showcase West to feature unclassified and classified agendas in addition to opportunities for young professionals and students

Herndon, Virginia (September 13, 2018) — The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation ( USGIF) will host a unique series of events Oct. 15-17 in St. Louis, Mo., highlighting the region’s vibrant and growing geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) community.

In the past decade, the St. Louis area has evolved into a hub of geospatial innovation. With the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Next NGA West (N2W) campus in development and more industry partners making their mark in the city, GEOINT has catapulted forward, putting St. Louis on the map for geospatial excellence.

“There is remarkable energy growing in the greater St. Louis area focused on GEOINT, with NGA’s planned new facility as a catalyst,” said USGIF CEO Keith J. Masback. “It couldn’t be a more opportune time to hold these interactive discussions given the manner in which GEOINT technologies and applications are proliferating across almost every sector of the global economy. Throughout the course of these events, USGIF will provide something for everyone, from elementary school students to seasoned professionals.”

USGIF’s Tech Showcase West events will kick off the evening of Oct. 15, when the Foundation’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) and the GeoSTL Meetup group co-host a Geospatial Tech Talk at the T-REX technology incubator in downtown St. Louis. The talk will introduce attendees to the St. Louis GEOINT community and share information on how to get involved. USGIF Board Member Patty Mims of Esri and Patricia Hagen, executive director of T-REX, are slated to share insights at this free event.

On Oct. 16, USGIF will host an unclassified Geospatial Gateway Forum at T-REX, featuring a keynote address and Q&A with NGA Director Robert Cardillo as well as an N2W update and panel discussions on commercial GEOINT, smart cities, and St. Louis-based innovation. A variety of speakers from industry, federal, and local government are scheduled to participate. The day will also include industry flash talks, student demos, and multiple networking opportunities.

On Oct. 17, the Foundation will hold a classified NGA Tech Showcase at the agency’s western campus in St. Louis. The agenda will include remarks by NGA West Executive Brett Markham and USGIF CEO Keith Masback as well as technology demonstrations, tours of the NGA Operations Center and museum, and networking breaks. Attendance Oct. 17 requires a TS//SI//TK/REL FVEY clearance, which must be passed no later than Oct. 10. Complete agenda and registration information for the Geospatial Gateway Forum and NGA Tech Showcase may be found here.

USGIF will conclude the event series with STEMulate St. Louis, a free K-12 STEM event, the evening of Oct. 17 at Saint Louis University. STEMulate will feature a giant map of North America supplied by USGIF, giant maps of Missouri and Illinois in addition to a thermal imaging camera provided by NGA, mapping tutorials by Esri, 3D puzzles from the St. Louis Science Center, 3D map demonstrations from BAE Systems, a panel discussion on STEM careers, and more.
