Leica Microsystems Opens First Ever Imaging Center in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 5, 2018 — (PRNewswire) —  Oyster Point Marina is now home to a cutting-edge life science research imaging center, offering access to state-of-the-art microscopy systems for scientists on the forefront of new discoveries. The new Leica Microsystems Imaging Center is the first of its kind in the world, and showcases systems that provide intricate detail and quantification of the dynamic processes of life.

"Leica's mission is to provide unrivaled insight for our customers by pushing the limits of what has been previously possible and visible. The Imaging Center allows Leica to deliver on our mission by placing the latest technology closest to the life science community so they can "see" for themselves how we can help advance their research," says Doug Spotts, Vice President and General Manager of Leica Microsystems Americas.

The grand opening of the Center begins Wednesday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a VIP event starting at noon with prominent guest speakers from Bay Area research institutes. Among them will be Dr. Parag Mallick, Associate Professor – Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection; Dr. Shalin B. Mehta, Leader – Advanced Optical Microscopy, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub; Dr. Alfred Millett-Sikking, Scientist – Calico Life Sciences, Andrew York Lab; and Dr. Heather Cartwright, Imaging Director – Advanced Imaging Facility at the Carnegie Institution for Science.

Presentations will be followed by an evening social reception. The grand opening continues Thursday, September 6, 2018, with an open house for all to attend from 8:30 a.m.5:30 p.m. and a reception in the evening.

"The new imaging center will showcase the breadth of technologies developed by Leica Microsystems for life science research – from tissue culture and stereo microscopes to fully automated high-throughput imaging systems built around the DMi8 S modular inverted platform," says Olga Davydenko, Ph.D., Advanced Workflow Specialist for Leica Microsystems. "These systems include advanced stage navigation features and are optimized for quick and easy well-plate scanning. The Imaging Center will also host the SP8 FALCON system – the first truly integrated confocal microscopy solution for Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM). For researchers interested in advanced photomanipulation techniques and dynamic processes at the cell surface, the new imaging center will display the DMi8 S system outfitted with Infinity TIRF and Infinity Scanner."

Following the grand opening events, the Leica Microsystems Imaging Center will be open to researchers who wish to explore these imaging platforms closer and understand how they can advance their discoveries. The center is located at:
400 Oyster Point Blvd., Suite 137
South San Francisco, CA 94080
