AIA Architect to Testify Before White House Cabinet Officials Today on School Design

AIA and members push for open learning environments that enhance security; informational design resources; funding for schools.

August 17, 2018 - WHAT: Leading school-design architect Jay Brotman, AIA, will testify at 2 p.m. today before senior White House cabinet officials to push for school design best practices that support open and positive learning environments that also enhance safety and security.

Brotman—designer of the new Sandy Hook Elementary School and partner at  Svigals + Partners—is testifying as a representative of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), which recently  launched a variety of initiatives to help address school violence through design. AIA and Brotman are also advocating for a federal clearinghouse of informational design resources in addition to federal school design funding, which Brotman will address today during his remarks to the Federal Commission on School Safety (FCSS).

Members of the media can  watch Brotman’s testimony beginning at 2 p.m. ESTtoday. Brotman will be available for media interviews following the meeting.
