2018 RoboMaster Competition Showcases The Future Of Robotics

NEW YORK, July 30, 2018 — (PRNewswire) — RoboMaster, a yearly robotics competition for aspiring young engineers and University students, concluded its 2018 competition at the Shenzhen Bay Stadium in Shenzhen, China. The winning team from South China University of Technology, took home the gold trophy along with RMB 500,000 as the grand prize. Close to 200 teams and close to 10,000 young engineers from around the world signed up for the 2018 RoboMaster competition, with 32 teams battling it out in the final round.

Sponsored and supported by DJI, the world's leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, RoboMaster is an annual robotics competition for teams of aspiring engineers to design and build next-generation robots to compete for supremacy on the RoboMaster battlefield. RoboMaster has gained popularity among the engineering community and has provided a world stage for University students to pursue their passion in science and technology, and to showcase their talent.

The RoboMaster final competitions were aired on Twitch.tv, bringing this electrifying event online to global audiences. More than 990,000 online viewers were tuned in from over 30 countries.

RoboMaster gave us the opportunity to put theoretical learning into practice, play with cool technology and create something that was real. To see our robots come to life and be able to compete with so many different team is an amazing feeling," said Wenhui Chen, captain of the South China University of Technology.

Coming in second place is the team from Northeastern University and in third place China University of Mining and Technology. The teams received RMB 300,000 and RMB 100,000, respectively. Other participants that competed in 2018 RoboMaster included teams from the University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Tech, Fukuoka University, Nanyang Technological University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, to name a few.

Currently in its fourth year, RoboMaster has attracted interests from overseas students in the engineering and robotics community. Teams participating in this year's competition included students from Mainland China, United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. The competition received support from partners including Twitch, Zhong An Insurance, HSBC, Analog Devices and Infineon.
