Wave Computing Adopts Low Power MIPS 64-bit Multi-Threaded Core

Company to Use MIPS Technology in its Next Generation AI Systems Spanning Hyperscale Datacenter to Edge-of-Cloud Applications

CAMPBELL, Calif., March 7, 2018 –  Wave Computing™, the Silicon Valley company that is revolutionizing artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning with its dataflow-based solutions, announced today that it has selected a 64-bit Multi-Threaded processor core from MIPS Technologies for future AI solutions. Wave will use the MIPS core in its next generation of Dataflow Processing Unit (DPU) chips that will ship in Wave’s future deep learning systems to handle device control functions including management of the real-time operating system (RTOS) and system-on-chip (SoC) subsystem.

“The combination of our revolutionary dataflow architecture with the latest MIPS 64-bit Multi-Threaded core will be another technology game changer from Wave,” said Derek Meyer, CEO of Wave Computing. “With MIPS’s technology in our arsenal, we will extend the dataflow revolution in AI from multi-rack super computers to the edge without the communication and synchronization bottlenecks that plague traditional heterogeneous offerings. Additionally, our development teams will be able to leverage the well-established MIPS ecosystem and development tool environments, which are well suited for our AI engineering needs.”

“Wave Computing is revolutionizing AI with its deep learning solutions, and we are pleased they have selected MIPS to enable their next-generation systems,” said Dado Banatao, Chairman of the Board for MIPS Technologies and Managing Partner at Tallwood Venture Capital. “MIPS leads the world of 64-bit embedded cores and our Multi-Threading technologies set us apart from others. Moreover, the efficiency and extensibility of the MIPS processor architecture is well suited to deep learning and AI. This agreement underlines the depth of MIPS’ focus on and commitment to the next generation of intelligent applications.”

About MIPS Cores

The MIPS family of CPU IP is a comprehensive portfolio of low-power, high-efficiency 32-/64-bit processor architectures and cores, ranging from the ultimate high-performance cores for high-end applications processors down to extremely small cores for deeply embedded microcontrollers. MIPS leads the industry with Multi-Threading capabilities for optimal application performance and efficiency.  With a strong position in a broad range of markets, MIPS CPUs power billions of products around the globe, and are supported by a broad ecosystem of commercial and open source software, operating systems and tools.

About Wave Computing’s Dataflow Technology
