USGIF Renews Academic Accreditation for the U.S. Air Force Academy

Collegiate accreditation program prepares students for GEOINT workforce

Herndon, Virginia (February 22, 2018)—The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) renewed academic accreditation for the United States Air Force Academy’s (USAFA) geospatial science program.

USAFA earned USGIF accreditation in 2010 and is the first service academy to be accredited by the Foundation. USAFA offers the USGIF GEOINT certificate through the academy’s department of economics and geosciences.

“Cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy are unique in that they will all become Air Force officers directly after graduation,” said Maj. Justin D. Cook, director of the USAFA GEOINT program. “We’ve seen an uptick in interest and applications to our GEOINT certificate program. We are proud of our program and appreciative of the relationship we have with USGIF. We look forward to many more years of continued success.”

USAFA is among 14 academic institutions accredited by USGIF’s Collegiate Accreditation Program. USGIF collaborates with academic institutions worldwide to prepare students for the geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) workforce. Participating students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in a GEOINT-focused career and earn a USGIF GEOINT certificate upon graduation.

“The certificate provides a rigorous, challenging, yet rewarding curriculum that allows the cadets to learn and practice competencies necessary to solve complex problems,” said Dr. Camelia Kantor, USGIF’s director of academic programs. “USAFA not only has outstanding faculty, bright students, and excellent resources, but also a highly collaborative and supportive environment promoting intellectual curiosity and exchanges, augmenting and recognition of unique skills, and commitment to leadership development and life-long learning.”

USGIF-accredited GEOINT programs include Fayetteville State University, George Mason University, James Madison University, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Northeastern University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Utah, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the University of Missouri at Columbia, the University of Redlands, the University of South Carolina, the University of Southern California, and the U.S. Military Academy.
