OPTIS Releases New Light Simulation Software Optimized for Automotive Industry

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPTIS, the leading software vendor for scientific simulation of light, human vision and physically correct visualization, today announces the release of SPEOS 2018, the latest version of OPTIS’s core light simulation software. In this iteration, SPEOS, capable of providing light simulation based on the physical laws of optics, contains new features benefitting the automotive industry, such as headlight simulation and the simulation of internal materials. Companies using SPEOS, in addition to OPTIS’s suite of simulation and virtual reality (VR) software, eliminate the need for physical prototypes to test their products, reducing the waste of materials and speeding time-to-market.

Due to increasingly demanding regulators and consumers, automotive headlights are continually evolving to make driving at night as clear as driving by day. SPEOS 2018 includes new updates to continue the evolution of the headlight to be more efficient and aesthetically appealing. Precisely, the latest version consists of a mode intended to push the limits of the visible distance and width of headlight beams while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Recently, new applications integrating digital micromirror device (DMD) technologies are emerging in the automotive industry, namely for intelligent pixel headlights and HUD systems. SPEOS 2018 is updated with the most in-depth CAD integration, allowing users to invent the most innovative optomechanical technologies. It also holds a library of digital light processing (DLP) that are dedicated to HUD in automotive.

“OPTIS’s technology is built on the concept of simulating light as a human would perceive it. Within the automotive industry, accurately creating and testing headlight beams, and ultimately making them more efficient, drives the industry forward,” said Jacques Delacour, Founder and CEO of OPTIS. “We’re proud to provide the technology that inspires and makes innovation possible.”

Increasingly important to designers is the ability to experience and test different materials. Carefully choosing the right textures will inspire design and help avoid unwelcome surprises, like a critical reflection on the windshield of a car. With SPEOS 2018’s texture mapping, designers can reproduce the exact effect and the perception of textured materials virtually, allowing them to test and choose materials that are perfect for their project. The software is HPC-ready (High Performance Computing), meaning it is possible to produce high-quality simulations with an unprecedented level of accuracy while also meeting tight industrial timeframes.

Another critical aspect of the technology is its ability to ease communication between designers, engineers and beyond. SPEOS 2018 allows its users to save 30 percent of the time spent on data exchanges between departments and between OEMs and their suppliers. Even non-optical experts can achieve high-level designs thanks to a simple user interface.

“For designers, engineers, OEMs, suppliers and beyond, we created SPEOS 2018 to make all levels of the process easier, more efficient and more easily communicated. SPEOS 2018 not only speeds time-to-market by eliminating the need for physical prototypes, but also by reducing friction in communication,” added Delacour.
