Industry’s strongest MEMS microphone portfolio driven by TDK

  • TDK and InvenSense’s MEMS microphone portfolios are now unified within TDK’s MEMS Sensor Business Group as fully supported portfolios
  • The synergistic supply chains and development teams will leverage each other’s strengths to further extend technology and expand market leadership

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 9, 2018 — TDK Corporation announces the combination of the TDK and InvenSense microphone portfolios and development teams. The organization will reside as part of the Sensor Systems Business Company’s MEMS Sensor Business Group and forms a key pillar in the strategy to expand TDK’s positioning in the overall sensor market place.

TDK’s portfolio of MEMS microphones originated with the acquisition of EPCOS in 2008. InvenSense’s portfolio originated in Analog Devices and was acquired by InvenSense in 2013. With TDK’s acquisition of InvenSense, the portfolios and teams are now working under the same umbrella strategy.

“These two teams complement each other tremendously. TDK’s microphone team has excelled at packaging and test methodologies that enable small and highly robust microphones, while InvenSense’s portfolio has led the industry in performance and signal chain integration,” said Hironobu Hayashi, Business Unit Manager, MEMS Microphones, TDK. “We are committed to supporting the existing portfolios from both groups. Future product releases with enhanced robustness, higher performance digital outputs, and raw acoustic improvements with analog output are all planned.”
