Loyola Marymount University Awards Full-Ride Scholarships To Local Los Angeles Students In The Hollywood Reporter's Women In Entertainment Mentorship Program

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — Loyola Marymount University awarded three local high school girls, participants in The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program, with the LMU/Women in Entertainment scholarship; a four-year full ride to attend the university.  A fourth scholarship was awarded to a current LMU SFTV freshman who is a former member of the Mentorship Program, to help her complete her education. The scholarships provide financial support for four years at the university, covering tuition, room and board, books and supplies.

Students from The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment mentorship program, along with Loyola Marymount University President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., THR Executive Editor Stephen Galloway, LMU School of Film and Television Dean Steven Ujlaki, 'Shark Tank' host Lori Greiner, and Trisha Cardoso of the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation.

The award ceremony was part of The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment Breakfast, held December 6th at Milk Studios in Los Angeles.  Celebrated entertainers Justin Timberlake and Gal Gadot presented the scholarships to Judith Chavez, Melany Rodriguez and Jordyn Patterson, high school seniors who will all join the LMU freshman class of 2021 next fall.  Carla Arellano, currently a student at LMU SFTV, was the recipient of the fourth scholarship and will continue her education at the university.

"Providing opportunity and education to young people is our goal at LMU, and with this program, we are affording these young women the ability to continue pursuing their personal and professional goals.  Within the Mentorship Program, they have already shown their dedication and desire for achievement, and we know they will be a tremendous asset to our university," said Stephen Ujlaki, dean for the LMU School of Film and Television.  He added, "We are infinitely grateful to our donors who continue to step up and make these girls' dreams a reality."

This marks the fifth year that LMU has partnered with THR's Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program, which paired 21 high school girls from underserved communities with leading figures from the entertainment industry. The program is a joint venture with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.  The two recipients of the very first LMU/Women in Entertainment scholarships will be graduating from the university at the end of spring semester 2018.

The scholarships are made possible through the extreme generosity of several donors:  award-winning creator, producer and writer Chuck Lorre, inventor and entrepreneur Lori Greiner and Warner Bros. Studios.  The LMU/WIE Scholarships are awarded in partnership with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter and LMU School of Film and Television.
