The patents were originally owned by Wave Systems Corp. ("Wave Systems") and were offered for sale as part of a corporate reorganization. Wave Systems developed products with hardware-based protection critical to securing data and was a board member of the Trusted Computing Group, the standard setting body promoting hardware-based security for devices in the personal computing platform such as storage devices.
The portfolio was acquired in a competitive bid process for an undisclosed amount.
