Frontier Precision Brings Microdrones® UAV Mapping Systems to Western U.S.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn., June 1, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — Frontier Precision, a leading provider of geospatial and construction equipment and services in the western United States, has announced they are now offering Microdrones unmanned aerial mapping solutions.

Microdrones training pilot Bradley Booth teaches Frontier Precision’s Jack Wilcox and customer to use a Microdrones mdMapper1000 UAS as part of the mdAcademy training program. Frontier Precision completed aerial mapping and inspection training as well as education on effectively training new users.

"We're very excited about this technology and our partnership with Microdrones," said Steve Richter, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Frontier Precision. "We know this is a big part of our future."

The 25-year-old company services geospatial survey and GIS mapping, field data collection, mosquito control, water resources, and construction customers throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Team members say adding Microdrones to their offering was an easy decision.

"We had a lot of interest in multi-rotor aircraft when Trimble released their UAVs," explained Richter. "When we began servicing construction companies we found UAS offered many benefits for that market, also. Plus, we are seeing many customers who tested the water by purchasing low-cost drones that are now looking for something more professional. UAS is the direction these industries are headed and we're looking forward to helping our customers reach their goals."

To accomplish this, Frontier Precision hired experienced UAS Specialist and certified pilot, Jack Wilcox, who will focus strictly on getting users started with unmanned systems. Frontier Precision recently completed Microdrones' mdAcademy training, including a specialized module that prepares them to train others to use the systems.

"Since our training, we've flown multiple missions and demos for customers," said Richter. "These systems have been very positively received. We demonstrated them for a construction company and they came back and told us the deliverables were ten times better than they achieved with a competitor's product."

Richter says customers are not only pleased with the technology, but also the price.

"The mdMapper1000 package offers considerably higher value than our customers are used to seeing for a commercial-grade, multi-rotor UAS," said Richter.

Available immediately, Frontier Precision is offering Microdrones' mdMapper packages, complete solutions that include aircraft, sensors, and software – everything companies need for aerial mapping. These packages were designed for simple training and easy use.

The mdMapper product line-up currently includes:

  • mdMapper200Compact, complete, and competitively priced, mdMapper200 is great for companies seeking the easiest possible drone to transport or a smaller drone to add to their fleet.
  • mdMapper1000Extra-long flight times and resistance to harsh environmental conditions make this complete mapping system excellent for applications like surveying, mapping, inspection, and construction.
  • mdMapper1000DGThe benefits of mdMapper1000 and the power of direct georeferencing (DG) combine to produce the best possible accuracy and time savings with few or no ground control points. Superior to RTK and PPK, DG enables accurate, efficient corridor mapping.

Users can also increase the functionality of their systems by purchasing accessory kits. Some of the available options include inspection, multispectral, thermal, and soon LiDAR and methane detection kits.

"Frontier Precision has an exceptional team," said Richard Rayhel, Microdrones Sales Manager for the Western United States. "They are dedicated, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. It's a pleasure working with them."

"What makes us different is our dedication and focus on customer service," said Richter. "We make sure the customer is productive with any equipment they purchase from us. Our goal is always to ensure they succeed."
