Leti to Release Versatile SensiNact Internet of Things Platform for Open-Source Development

Middleware Collects, Aggregates and Secures Scripting of Data From Multiple Devices via Virtually Any IoT Communication Protocol

NUREMBERG, Germany – March 14, 2017 – Leti, a research institute of CEA Tech, today announced the release of its middleware for the SensiNact Internet of Things (IoT) platform for open-source development.

Under development and trials since 2010, SensiNact is a unified framework for integrating, and managing IoT devices via generic application programming interfaces (APIs). It enables the collection, aggregation and secure scripting of data from a wide range of communicating objects, regardless of the network communication protocol: LoRa, Sigfox, EnOcean, CoAP, HTTP, MQTT, XMPP, etc.

“SensiNact will soon be released as open source via the Eclipse community to avoid vendor lock-in solutions,” said Thierry Collette, Leti division vice president in charge of technological development for embedded systems and integrated components. “Leti’s goal is to ensure a smooth digital transition to the IoT for cities, and we will continue to work with partners to develop SensiNact demonstrators that apply specific use cases to meet their needs.”

As part of the European open platforms initiative, SensiNact has been deployed in several collaborative smart-city, smart-building and smart-healthcare projects:

  • ClouT: SensiNact enables access to more than 500,000 physical and virtual devices across European and Japanese cities: Santander, Spain; Geneva, Italy and Fujisawa and Mitaka, Japan
  • FESTIVAL: SensiNact federates smart-home, smart-station and smart-shopping testbeds.
  • BUTLER: SensiNact hosts applications for a range of uses, including smart parking, fall detector, medical reminders for elderly and smart office.
  • OrganiCity open calls to test SensiNact to access data from three pilot cities that use different protocols: Santander, Spain; Aarhus, Denmark and London.

With a PC-based configuration, the SensiNact platform can handle more than 10 protocols and simultaneous connections to more than 10,000 devices. Component-based architecture makes it easy to update and extend the platform. Its standard service-oriented approach provides loose coupling between the physical and the virtual worlds, which ensures the necessary flexibility to deal with dynamic and heterogeneous real-world environments.

Leti announced the open-source project at Embedded World 2017 in Nuremberg, Germany, where Ali Erdengiz, Business Developer at Leti, will be available to discuss SensiNact at CEA Tech booth Hall 4A / 4A-437.
