VRLA Partners with IEEE VR to Present Academic Track at VRLA

Latest Scientific Research and Development in VR to be Presented at Co-Located Programming Block from IEEE VR at VRLA 2017

Los Angeles, CA, February 24, 2017 -- VRLA, the premiere virtual and augmented reality conference, today announced a partnership with IEEE VR to bring the latest scientific research in virtual reality to VRLA. This advanced academic programming block will be a subset of the content presented at the IEEE VR conference, and will be available to VRLA 2-Day Pro Pass holders. Special sessions will cover topics ranging from virtual humans and avatars, to locomotion and navigation in virtual environments, and will be offered on Friday, April 14th during VRLA at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

IEEE VR is the oldest academic consortium dedicated to the study of virtual reality from a science and engineering perspective. Backed by decades of research, IEEE VR uncovers the latest developments from the academic community furthering applications in VR. IEEE hosts a standalone conference for the academic and engineering communities March 18-22 at the Manhattan Beach, Calif. Marriott, and will present a subset of that event’s programming and research posters at VRLA as well.

“IEEE VR represents the talented men and women that are out on the bleeding edge of what’s possible. The tools and technologies designed in their labs today will power the next generation of content. It’s a real honor to have them participate and present their research at VRLA,” said John Root, co-founder, VRLA.

“IEEE VR has been the meeting point for scientists and engineers who have been investigating, understanding, and pushing forward the science and technology of virtual reality for several decades,” said Dr. David M. Krum, General Chair, IEEE VR. “The rising interest in VR that we see in industry and in consumers is incredibly exciting for those of us who have been building up VR for years in research labs all over the world. VRLA has become the most exciting hub for experiencing new VR content and prototype technologies, and we’re proud to join forces to bring the fruits of our research to their audiences."

VRLA will feature industry-leading hardware and software developers, content creators, and cutting-edge prototype technology that can only be seen on-site at the event. Several educational sessions, workshops and panels will cover the latest developments in VR and AR, and Justin Roiland, creator of “Rick & Morty” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim will deliver Saturday’s keynote address. Unity Technologies CEO John Riccitiello – whose engine and platform powers popular virtual and augmented reality experiences – will deliver Friday’s keynote address.
